The guy at the lumber yard talked me out of buying the cabinet grade plywood as he swore up and down that MDF was much better for speaker cabinets...now I didn't buy the MDF I just walked out empty handed, and thought I better check one more time to make sure that the Cabinet Grade Plywood is a better choice than the MDF.

Thanks in advance for the help
Sorry I forgot to reply.

Yes, Cabinet Grade Ply is superior. Especially 13 Ply Baltic Birch, void free. It has a stiffer structure and lower mass. It also is far easier to work with; the MDF dust is a true health hazard! MDF is popular and accepted as the standard for cabinets for speakers, and this is why he believes it is better. Can not fault him. In the subwoofes, this stiffer material will let you more easily push the resonant frequency of the lowest resonance of the panels above the band/frequency range that you use the subwoofer. And it will save weight as well.

For full range/main channel speakers, in fact, no material(even Baltic Birch) is sufficient by itself. You should never depend on the dampening properties of any single layer construction! This is because you will not be able to push the resonant frequency over the mid-range band. You will use a constrained visco-elastic layer between two sheets of material; this will be your true dampening layer, and this supersedes the inherent dampening properties of the plywood. The plywood is best; it's stiffer structure should better focus the vibrational energy into the visco-elastic channel where it is dealt with in the highest efficiency.

Sorry for the long time without reply

Well basically I have chosen to build both the subwoofer and the speakers thanks to Tony G and HumbleDIY speakers, they have some fantastic designs that I am undertaking....I am using the Kappa Perfect 12 subwoofer as the sub, my question now is for the amp.

Which is a better amp for the price, the Behringer Europower amp or the Yamaha P2500S amp? I shouldn't limit it to the P2500S, but all the way up to the P7000S...Is behringer better for subs as I see that was recomended with the perfect 12 build?

Thanks, I am about to buy the amps and wondering if the Yamaha are worth the price difference, as I can get a killer deal on the behringer amps, which are twice as powerfull, and will be using the Behringer DCX.

Thanks, Bob
