I have 4 Definitive Technology speakers that I am installing in my backyard. This is primarily for my kids - listening via streaming.
1. What is a good amp to power 4 speakers?
1a. Can I hook up a bluetooth receiver to this?
2. Do I need 2 channel or 4 channel?
3. How do I wire the speakers?
4. Do ohms come in to play ?
4a. What do I need to worry about?
DKP,
1. Any multi-channel (5 or more) audio video receiver (AVR) will do the trick.
- Just ensure the AVR has an "
All Channel Stereo" mode or equivalent (manufacturers call it by different names).
- No need to spend a lot here, a couple hundred $ should work fine.
1a.
Yes, consider
this one from NFC (I use four in my house, they are cheap and work great).
2. Neither, if you go the AVR route suggested above. 4-channel if you buy a separate amplifier (IMHO don't).
3. One pair of wire (normally they are bound together by plastic) to one Def Tech speaker.
- Connect one speaker to each of the
Front L,
Front R,
Surround L and
Surround R speaker outputs on the back of the AVR.
- Positive to positive, Negative to negative on each end (speaker and AVR) -- easy peesy.
4. No, as long as you connect one speaker to one AVR speaker output. Yes, if you connect two or more speakers, in either series or parallel, to one AVR speaker output (don't do this).
4a. In descending order: Your kids music choices, Zombie apocolypse, North Korean nuclear weapons, Middle East peace, global over population, . . .
- On a serious note,
locating the speakers to be as protected from the elements (rain, sun, wind) as possible.
- The
speakers you have need to be designed for outdoor applications. If not, they may not last very long.
