I was wondering if I need the DSP version of the iNUKE NU1000? I can get the non-DSP version refurbished for $95 shipped w/ 3 year warranty. I don't think I can get the DSP version that cheap.

So I have a Yamaha HTR-5960 which has LFE for subwoofer out and the crossover is currently set at 80hz for my single Dayton RSS315HO-44 12". I'm wondering/hoping if the equalizer on my Yamaha will not require the DSP version? I'm a noob when it comes to power amps and DSPs.

The iNUKE will be powering my Two Dayton Audio RSS315HO-44 12"s which will be in sealed chambers seeing 0.959cuft. each. However, going ported is always an option in the future.

So do I need the DSP version and why?

With a sealed sub, your gonna want eq. I'd look at the minidsp for eq function as your Yamaha will not do anything to extend the low end. I'd order the umik/minidsp combo and use REW to take the measurements and apply the filters(biquad for low for low frequency extension).

....and if you go ported later the dsp can be handy in setting a protective high pass filter. If fan noise is an issue and you don't get the iNuke dsp model, an XLS Crown model would be much quieter....

I can verify that the Crown XLS is super quiet. Just got one to power a sub and it is presently about 6 feet from my main listening position. I have not one noticed any fan noise.

PS but you would want the minidsp with the Crown XLS, as the onboard dsp is for crossover, not suitable for a protective high pass filter nor EQ.

Not sure why my post got rated dumb, but with most sealed Subs your gonna need eq to extend the low end.The 12s have an FS of 27, so depending on the f3 and room gain you will need eq.

Get the dsp, it has valuable features like parametric EQ that is excellent for smoothing bass response, and it should only cost about $149.

The HO drivers really need the low end boosted, either using a linkwitz transform or a peq, especially when used for HT, I believe those subs in a sealed box like that will roll off very early, like 35hz or a bit higher.
