First post here. Just set up a cobbled together sound system for a small home theater in an 14x18x7 ft. basement room. Using Symphonic Line Legatos for the front right and left speakers. These are full range nearly 40 kg speakers that go down to nearly 30 hz. They are quite similar to Odyssey Lorelei speakers if anyone has had experience with those. Purchased an Aperion Intimus 5c for the center channel and Intimus 4bs for the surrounds. As I don't have a good frame of reference for multi-channel sound I wonder how much better it might be with a higher quality center channel in particular. In other words, is there a better match for Symphonic Line speakers (than won't break the bank) and how much difference is it likely to make? Aperion does have a lenient return policy so I could try the next model up, the Versus I think it is called. Hope this isn't too vague.
Thanks, Jim
I have never heard of those speakers, let alone heard them.
However they are German two ways, that sell in Europe for just over 7K Euros!
The speakers uses a
not very impressive Scanspeak mid woofer, paired with one of the Reveltor tweeters. The woofer is running into significant trouble below 2K, it is a a low Qt driver, so I bet it is pretty thin on the bottom end making sub use mandatory. I would bet those speakers have a sonic signature, from the woofer.
Now it is vital to match the center to the mains very closely or you are better off dispensing with the center channel altogether.
If you want a center to match you will have to build it or have it built.
You would purchase two of the woofers and a tweeter. If Symphonic will share the crossover for the Legatos with you, then it would be a simple matter to redesign the crossover, so the center has an identical sonic signature to the mains. I don't see another solution, since that German outfit does not produce any center speakers.
