I am trying to put together my surround system and need help with matching an amp. Currently I have a Carver CT-29V pre amp and a TFM-35X 2 channel amp pushing a pair of Klipsch Forte II speakers. I picked up a Klipsch KV2 center speaker (not the best match, I know, but try to find an academy) and am running large monster cable speaker wire, so I am wondering what is a good plan for an amp to run the center (that will keep up with my 250W TFM-35X) and the rears? BTW- I was planning on using JBL 2500's for the rear.

I bought a Rotel 4 channel bridgable amp thinking that I could bridge 2 channels for the center, but it couldn't seem to keep up with the front speakers, so I returned it. The sales guy was really bragging up the torroidial (sp ?) power supply in it saying that it would keep up no problem.

any advice? Thanks!

jglad,

That center channel speaker is not going to keep up with the mains period. I know as I have the KV-2 as well. It sits in my living room with my cheesy setup consisting of retired HT A/V gear. In the dedicated home theater room, it was replaced 7 or 8 years ago with a Klipsch KT-LCR. As soon as I replaced that whimpy center, my HT came to life. In my opinion, the single KV-2 is not going to cut it with the rest of your equipment. Sure, you can get an amp that will push it to the same dB levels as the mains, but it is going to sound harsh and very thin when it gets there. My suggestions:

1) Try to find a KT-LCR (these THX certifed 31 lb center channels are awesome)

2) Get another KV-2 and split the signal to both of them increasing the volume by 3 dB (I would go with #1)
