I am looking for a pair of speakers that have plenty of power and bass. In the near future I have a family wedding coming up. Prior to the wedding there will be a lot of family events and gatherings which will involve lots of loud music and partying. The receiver that I will be using to power these speakers with be the Cambridge Audio Azur 640R which has plenty of power. Can someone give me any recommandations so that I can start my search!

speakers themselves have no power. It is up to you to feed them adequate power from your receiver or from separate amplification.:)

Go and audition speakers & get the ones that sound the best to you.

As Yogi says, when you come to a fork in the road, take it.

You're at that fork right now.

While they appear similar at first glance, home speakers are different creatures from those used for PA work, which is what you're asking about.

What do you want? Nice smooth home speakers or PA speakers optimized for maximum sound and coverage with the minimum power?

Also, how many speakers are you expecting to buy?

Does that dollar figure include a subwoofer?

If you're not too picky on sound, get hold of some big Cerwin Vega! speakers. They will play loud for those social functions.

Internet direct brands offer the most in terms of bang for buck. Look at brands like AV123, Axiom, Aperion, etc.

To get party level bass you will need a subwoofer.

You can rent PA gear from music stores for way less money.

You want highly efficient speakers. It takes doubling the power for every 3dB volume increase if everything else in the system stays the same. If speaker A is 87dB efficient and speaker B is 90dB efficient then speaker A will require twice the power to reach the same volume as speaker B. If speaker C is 84dB and speaker D is 93dB it would take 8 times the power for speaker C to reach the same volume as speaker D.

Look at older heritage Klipschs.
