Hell, I'd be satisfied if they just came standard with some sort of digital output (coax or toslink) and good old red/white analog audio outputs. That would at least allow it to be somewhat useful with most existing equipment from right before the pre-HDMI/Blu-ray days and going back to the days of stereo.
I have a Blu-rau player feeding a Marantz 2270 in my basement. Pandora and Slacker sound great out of those JBL L-26's, as does the occasional movie.
As for Sonys. it's not just their bottom of the line unit that lacks these niceties. You have to go several steps up the ladder to get them.
