Hello,

I have a fairly small room (~10' x 10')
And I need to get new speakers and amp.

the budget is ~$2500.
I listen to 50% 60's - 70's rock (floyd, zeppelin, beatles)
Maybe 20% classicla music and %30 jazz, modern rock, etc

So I was thinking about:
av123 Rocker RS450
Strata Mini (probably does not fit into the budget)
Monitor Audio RS6
Canton Ergo 607 DC

Does anyone have any impressions on these speakers and what amp would be good. I was thinking Onix SE3 tube (35wpc)

Thank you.

If you have not made any purchases yet, I have some suggestions. I'm not sure if I can make recommendations from a particular place or not so e-mail if you like. (I am not a seller or dealer.)

Those seem like pretty massive speakers for such a small space. By the time you space the speakers from the wall and include a place to sit, you're going to be only ~5 feet from the speakers. If your going to be listening near field, you may want to go with a smaller, competent bookshelf speaker and maybe include a subwoofer.

You can get some very nice bookshelves for the size of a room instead of going for towers. Your taste in music is a lot like my wife's in the rock aspect so here are some speakers that we have heard that you might like.

Dali Mentor 1
Dynaudio Focus 140 and 110
PSB Platinum M2 (if you can get a discount MSRP $2000)

I was also going to say the B&W 705 but I think the one's above are in a totally different league. If you like a lot of bass I would say check out the M2 and if you want something more neutral all around the Mentor 1 with the Focus in between the other two.

AV123 speakers

If you are willing to buy used you could get the Strata Mini's and SP3 amp in your budget. There are a couple pairs of Minis for sale on the AV123 classified for about $1500/pair and the SP3 tube amps show up on Audiogon pretty frequently for $5-600. That would make a great audiophile 2-channel setup.

New Strata's and a pre/owned SP3 would be in his budget. Shipping would be the only cost above his budget. And shipping is like $200-$300 for the Strata's (315lbs).

Those are some good looking speakers Mazer, I love their retro look. How would you characterize their sound?
Slightly forward, or brighter top end. Great imaging and sound stage. What is there not to like about them. Excellent finishes, and craftsmanship.

With what would they compare to from the likes of B&W, Dynaudio, PSB, Paradigm, Monitor Audio, etc? B&W 800 series, Paradigm Sig, Monitor Golds?
