One of my friend got a NAD525 it is not the latest and greatest but he wants to do the clock and opamp mod and he ask me for help. He wants to do what this guy did with his:

NAD525Bee Mod

My opinion at is that he will be better off sell the old NAD and get one of the newer player with up sampling. Am I correct? Or the old NAD worth the upgrade?

Sorry he can not afford the Oppo player;)

Ummm...my BS alarm just went off. Spacey? Digital like? Analog like?
"My knowledge in electronic is minimal..." This guy has no idea what he's doing. The audible changes, if any, that he just created are probably all placebo effect.

I just want to say that my silver lined speaker wire makes my music shine like never before.

They where being sarcastic. What they where getting as it the upgrade will offer no sonic improvement. Modern cd players are already transparent and need no modifications.

mtrycrafts is correct in that your friend needs to spend his money on room treatments and better speakers. These types of upgrades offer legitimate measureale differences.

Not much to try there, really. And, that silver wire reference is in the same box of gimmick;):D Waste of $$$.
Jitter has to be a huge amount to be audible. Not present in that quantities in modern gear. Simple.

CDP upgrade

My friend is now asking me for suggestion what CD player to get if sell his NAD. His budget is between $500-$800.

I have not been shopping for CDP for a long time, any idea?

Tell him to keep the NAD. It's a well designed and built machine and will sound the same as the other more expensive players.

Take the 5 to 800 dollars and work on the room acoustics and better speakers. It's that simple.
