I think the biggest one is the cables, I know my uncle spent about $3500 on cables for his home theater. And its a basic 5.2 setup...

I like bluejeans, Monoprice, audioresearch, ect for my RCA's, I recently bought a pair of Emotiva XLR's {because they were short} and a Emotiva toslink {also short} but all 3 cables were under $70 shipped for all 3 cables {and I still felt dirty}...

But for speaker cables, I make my own, just buy 12 ga copper wire {real 12ga} from amazon, if I feel like spending more Knukoncepts Karma cable is nice but costs almost double {$20 vs $40 for 50ft}, and pick a banana connector you like.. I use the sewell deadbolts they are $1.25 ea.. If you want to be "fancy" just for looks, you can add knu's wire pants, and some techflex...

25ft 12ga-$12
25ft 3/8" techflex-$7
24 bananas-$27
10-10ga wirepants- $15 {get the 10ga if you are going to use "real" 12 awg.

So for $60 you can make 5- 5' cables, thats less than $10 each, and ad another $20 you can make 5-10' cables....
And they do the same thing as the $20 per foot cables..

I think we have made most of Elliot's points on these forums multiple times over the years.

I think we have a solid track record of confronting the "Shysters" and driving them off the forums.

I think we are entitled to have some satisfaction in providing a forum where people can get sensible guidance and steered away from criminal frauds.

I know that is the only reason I still post here after a number of years.

Go to pretty much any other audio forum and the BS is not quickly exposed and knocked down like it is here.

Funny, they (and a few other forume) say the same thing about us. Audio Asylum is currently tearing that article apart.

Sometimes I feel like such a low-life luddite when I don't believe magic wires, etc, but, I will add another....

On my usual way to lunch at work, on a section of a midtown Baltimore street that is in transition, I pass by a small store that is an outlet for the company that makes "special" things to be used to set your equipment ON. These things are kinda pretty, big, thick, heavy solid maple wood stands for your amplifier, turntable, etc. They would make great chopping blocks if you're into butchering your own meat, but would putting my amp on one and then putting it on the rack make my amp sound better? The company claims that maple has special properties that make components sound better, although they don't explain just WHAT those properties are. These babies cost a few hundred each, so they ain't cheap.

The company also sells very pretty maple racks, as well as CD treatments, special wires, etc, but the chopping blocks and claims about the special sound of maple make my rational mind spin.
