Focus Enhancements, Inc., a leading supplier of wireless audio technologies debuted their wireless home theater surround sound products utilizing their Summit wireless technology system with a complete Aperion Audio Intimus 5 series 5.1 speaker package at the CEDIA 2009 expo show. They put on the Dave Matthews Live at Radio City Music Hall Blu-ray disc which instantly won them points. I was enveloped in the great Aperion sound we often write about in our reviews without the shackles of the cabling. As I enjoyed the pristine, unadulterated fidelity, I couldn't help to ponder the endless possibilities this new wireless technology offers.

I am curious about what this kind of thing costs, and how well it works. It took me forever to convince my father-in-law that Bose makes horrid speakers, and now he has his mind set on some sort of wireless speaker system, which, until I read this, usually qualifies for the same adjectives.

Unfortunately, even if it works great, I doubt it will be in his budget.

This is pretty cool. I'm in a situation where the best spot for my display and mains is out into the room. I have a mess of cables out in the open. Since its not my place I can't even run wire under the floor.

Even if I could convert only the sub and surrounds it would be great!

My guess is that you will still need to plug them into wall outlets - I am sure they are not battery powered - thus wireless is not truly wireless.

True, but a lot of rooms have power outlets on multiple walls. I think the goal is to avoid the need to run wires across a room.

I was considering a wireless signal transmission system until I got new carpet and ran flat wire underneath.

Wireless is only part of the solution. The goal of this technology is to make great sounding home theater easy to do. Speakers are plugged in like a lamp. They turn on the main system, and that's it. Everything is figured out from the number of speakers, their exact location, which should be left front, right surround, etc. As Gene pointed out in his article, the sweet spot can be set with a press of a button. It's just easy.

When setting up our booth at CEDIA, we had two complete 7.1 systems that were sealed in crates and had them both up and fully optimized in under an hour.

I'll be keeping an eye on the Aperion Audio site for updates. This looks interesting to me.

No, you'll need to get special cables to connect to the wireless transmitter. Normal cables wont work with it :) That's how they'll get the average consumer :D

Maybe the exotic cable vendors can sell canned air to speed up the propagation signaling and improve performance. Think about it. Its like air freshener for your audio system :)

I too will be watching this. My Dad really liked my setup and is talking about wanting to do rear speakers. The way the room is setup he can't use the pre-wired rears because there is a wall blocking the speaker to seat location angle. It's weird. The designer was an idiot.

Now that's pure genius. I was just thinking about aftermarket power cords, but that's excellent. You better patent that, Gene. :)
