Mythos one speakers

Does anybody have an honesy review besides the best speaker in the world sales pitch? I will only be using them for a two channel app. STEREO. MUSIC.

hey guys

"just-some-guy" here. i am at by bother in laws. give him some advice here. i am trying to get him to get some aperions, but a little over his budget. about $1500 for mains.

I do not have first hand experience with either of those speakers. I think buying any speaker without giving it a proper audition is money poorly spent.

He should hear as many speakers in, slightly above, and slightly below his budget as possible. Even if someone jumps on here and says the mythos one is a great speaker, the end user might not feel that way at all.

He should grab some original disc format source material, a notepad, and write down what he likes or dislikes about each one before he makes a decision. Anything less would be a crapshoot. If he narrows it down to two or three and doesnt know which to go with, he should listen to the ones in question again.

For me to listen to every speaker out there isnt going to happen. I would have to listen to them all on the same equipment, same volume, same room. I just wanted an opinion from someone who has these and was willing to give an honest upfront view without saying oh these are the best. OF course everyone thinks that of thier own stuff. I thought for yrs my B&W 805'S sounded great. The truth is they have a flat sound. Clear but flat. I bought into that, I know I wont buy them again. THEY ARE WAY OVERPRICED. The Mythos I think might be as well. I know most of what I am asking is personal option. I would like to heard more about the cons.

I've owned the Def Tech BP7000, BP7001, BP10B, SM450, & CLR3000 speakers.

I've never heard the Mythos One, though.

I no longer own any Def Techs, but I can honestly say that they sounded great.

I've also auditioned the B&W 800D, 802D, and 803D.

I thought the BP7000 had clearer midrange and 300% better bass than any of those B&Ws.

So my opinion is that the Def Tech Mythos One speakers will sound great, especially when you mate them with a subwoofer.

Speaking from experience I could have not said it better myself. B&W BASS RESPONSE is a serious issue with me. They have very little to offer it that area. I am forever adjusting the Velodyne. I strongly believe if someone needs to make a cassette recording with a mic these would be the best. Other then that I cant wait till the day I get to toss them to the curb.

Most speakers lack bass. But when B&W charge as much as they do and still don't give any bass, that's when I get pissed off.

Oh, but B&W say that they give you super clear and detail midrange, instead of deep bass. Total BS. I could hardly hear the bass guitar on "Hotel California" on any of those models.

Another bad thing about some of these B&W is the poor off-axis freq response. So if the room is well treated and you are listening on the sweet spot, then it's great. But if your room is not well treated and especially if you are not at the sweet spot, then you are screwed.

Def Tech, OTOH, pretty much lie about their frequency response. So when they say the Mythos One is 20Hz-30kHz, they actually mean 40Hz-20kHz +/-3dB. Some models are closer to the spec than others (10Hz). Some are totally off by 40Hz.

Definitely no speaker is perfect.
