I just bought an toshiba hd-d2ku hd dvd player and was wondering if I am going to hear any improvement if I use the hdmi cable for audio although my reciever does not supoort dts hd or dolby hd ?? Should I just use my optical and save the extra dough ? I am thinking if it has to down convert the sound its better off to use the optical ??

Whaaaaa!! Dude! Your player decodes True HD. Set it to PCM and let the player do the decoding. Your receiver will accept 5.1 PCM via HDMI and you can hear the track in all its glory.

SO I set the dvd player to pcm and what do I set the reciever to ? What is thew difference between pcm and bitstream ? Last but not least how can my reciever accept a signal that it does not have a listening mode for ? Or is my listening mode pcm ?

Set the receiver's input mode to auto so it picks up whichever signal is being sent.
