Damn that sucks. I got my XPA-5 in the mail yesterday and it sounds great. Its a noticable improvement over my old HT receiver when you start increasing the volume. It makes my speakers sound much more clear and open. I still have my crossover set at 80hz but I'm going to lower that to hear the full range of my speakers now that I have sufficient power to run the lower frequencies.

I'm definitely going home now and double checking my connectors.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but when did you order your XPA-5? I ordered during the sale and was told one would be sent as soon as they were back in stock. Haven't heard anything yet.

I actually got this XPA-3 as b-stock also for $100 off. You lose the free shipping, but it is still a great price.

These guys are awesome. Another company with excellent customer service! I put the call into them about the loose RCA when I thought that was the issue and they are sending out a replacement amp and a tag to ship this one back. BIG thumbs up to these guys.

Yeah, they're great. I got my XPA-5 back when they were on sale for $599 with free shipping and they let me pay with post-dated checks. Cathy even gave me a 2% discount since I wasn't paying by credit card and they wouldn't get hit with the transaction fee. Cathy didn't even have to mention that, she could have just kept the money.

Also, when I was wondering if I should wait until after the firmware update came out to get my TV calibrated, I decided to call Emotiva and see if I could talk to Lonnie, the lead engineer. I called and asked for Lonnie and he actually picked up the phone! How many other companies will put you right through to one of the main guys?

I also got an XPA-5 for 599.00, but paid 25.00 shipping. Which isn't bad at all. I was reading some posts and noticed, we all have our own personal TECH to talk with. My tech is Vincent, he's the one I call with questions. Now,! that's personal service!

Does it sound better with the black trim or the silver trim? :D

John,

congrats on your purchase! Yeah, those guys over at Emo do rock indeed.
Know what? I had the very same problem when I got my UPA-7 and the culprit was a bad cable though. So far, so pretty good!

Enjoy your new toy and... be happy :)

I went over to John's today to hear his new and improved rig. I've heard it more than a few times over the years. It's always been very resolved and sweet sounding, but with each amp upgrade, he's added dynamics and kick. The new Emo is another improvement. Anyone he invites over there gets a real treat.

When did you guys get your XPA-5's for $599?...I am JUST now finding out about them and would LOVE to have one for my system, but I see them on the Emotiva site for $799.......?

Also, how MANY pre-out jacks do you need to have on the back of a receiver to hook this baby up? I have one set on mine. Do you need one for fronts, and another for rears, etc?

Still learnin after all these years...

You would need a single preamp output for each channel you want to amplify. XPA-5 = 5 channels so you would need 5 outs; aka: Front L&R, Center, and surrounds. They were on sale over the holidays.

Are you saying the XPA-3 was a complete waste of money over the other external amp or the 4810?
Actually, I was saying neither. I would love to have a 4810 and a XPA-3 for the fronts, and in fact was giving some thought to adding a XPA3 to my 4310.

I posted this comment about a week ago. I was following the other thread and was surprised that the consensus then (again a week ago) was that the XPA3 was a waste of money and that the upgrade in power from 140(4810) to 200(XPA3) would go completely unnoticed. The posters there said that to actually hear the difference you would have to double the power of the 4810, and that the OP was just buying into marketing hype.

Since j_garcia had just purchased a XPA3, I posted here to get an an alternative view.

Dang. I'm usually a member of the "day late, dollar short" club. But, a $200 difference in price! That was SOME sale.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Now I'll be researching the various forums to see what people think are the best Receivers to match up with the XPA-5. Thinking maybe an Onkyo 707. Seems like the Audessy speaker-balancing system and other features of that unit would make it a good match.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Warmest regards.

Mike

Welcome Mike, it would help to know which speakers you're driving? On a price basis, the 707 is an excellent option.
