I never use the fireplace, so it's not an issue. I don't want to find out otherwise. I'm renting; otherwise, I'd run the cables in the wall (and mount the rear surrounds).

First of all, very clean set up. It's nice to see others that acknowledge the importance of aesthetics (i.e. invisibility of wiring, etc.) of a room. In regards to your wiring around the fireplace, perhaps a more elegant solution would be to put a molding "enclosure" right where the wire exits the carpet and route it up and over the fireplace. You could paint it to match -- and if you ever need to move I doubt the owner/landlord would even know it's there. A buddy of mine did this and it looks fantastic (sorry no pix). All in all, high praises for a job well done in a small space.
P.S. I noticed your rack is on wheels, have you tried moving the rack in and your mains out a little further? I wonder how your imaging would be affected...

Funny you should mention that. I haven't updated the pics yet. But a couple weeks ago, on the recommendation of the guys at GIK Acoustics (sent them room pics; they were very friendly and helpful), I pulled the fronts and center spkr forward about a foot. Without the TV in the middle, it improved both imaging and soundstage. I also pushed the chair and sofa back a little more.

I also gave room treatments a shot, per others' suggestions. Got a couple of GIK's 244 panels. Right now they're on the back wall in the corners, but I toyed with them first on the first reflection points. I think the latter had the more noticeable (and better) effect, but the panels were too thick to mount on the side walls (the left side will require a stand in any event, given the cavity). Still trying to figure out what to do there.

The tinkering never stops.

Hey Peko,

I have found that most rooms need more then 2 panels, but glad to see it is helping a little for you. You may want to try to put them in the front corners. I have always found that is the best place to start with bass traps.
For the first reflections you would want to go with the GIK 242 panels.

I do have a suggestion. I know you are renting but a heavy curtain over the window will help with the sound and also improve light control.

Once again, very well done, especially for a place that is not your own.

I've made quite a few changes since those pics. Switched to the Panny 50" pro model 720p plasma, and got a Denon 2930ci because, well, you have to upscale At least until the format wars are over. Picked up a Martin Logan Descent sub. Also grabbed a Cary Cinema 5 amp and I'm waiting on a Proceed AVP2 pre/pro.
