I agree. It's probably your room and the placement. The EQ should help though.
Nice build. It looks great.

Thanks. Like I said, I'm really diggin' the finish. Like those last 2 pics show, the box looks black most of the time. But when you shine a light on it, you see the brown and the "sparklies". Kinda like the Mystic paint on Cobra Mustangs a few years back.I agree. It's probably your room and the placement. The EQ should help though.

Yeah dude, don't get started with DIY. It's totally addictive. Once you get started you can't stop.Looks great man. I'd love to have a nice giant sub but I am honestly too lazy to attempt a build.
Hey John,
You'll have to come over and help me dial it in once we get settled in Gilroy.![]()
I'm sure you're right. I was listening to some music this morning and at the seating position the bass is nice but a tad muted. But when I got up and walked close to the sub, I noticed that the bass got VERY hot just to the right and in front of the sub. The corner wall is about 2 feet to the right of the sub. One of the PR's faces this wall directly. You can see the corner and wall I'm talking about in the second pic on Page 2. It's just on the other side of the exercise bike.It sounds like you have some response issues in the room or with the sub/eq you are using.
It is also possible you are used to boomy/more bloated bass at a specific set of frequencies with your old sub. I would run a response curve with the 12" only and then with the 15 to see what kind of difference your are experiencing.
Nice job though! It looks pretty nice. Will you be doing grilles of some sort?
Very nice! I'm sure that you'll dial it in when you get to the new house. So I went to a guitar store today and got an XLR-to-RCA adapter. I spent about an hour trying to get the sub dialed in. I seem to have a pretty nasty spike at 25hz. I could never get 25hz flat without having the other octaves around it way too low. So the best I was able to do was get 20, 35 and 40hz all realtively flat with about a 5db spike at 25hz. Not too bad I guess.
Here's what the eQ2 looked like when I was done.

That's not as bad as you might think. It's probably room gain.a 5db spike at 25hz.
I think I'll try cutting the width down to .3 and see if I can get it right on 25hz and then try cutting 25hz as opposed to boosting the other frequencies. I'll see if that makes things any better. That's not as bad as you might think. It's probably room gain.
I haven't noticed anything with the eQ2. The manual even states numerous times that you need to turn the eQ2 on before your amp to avoid a possible 30hz turn on thump, but I don't even get that and I definitely had the eQ2 on BEFORE turning my amp on numerous times.A bit off topic but I get a muted(not to loud) sonic burst when I power off my sub using a Reckhorn B2 EQ...do you get the same thing using the ED eq2...? As for the new sub sure looks good and just how big will your next place be?
Regards, Bill
Sorry dude, I didn't even notice that that build was you.Very nice! I'm sure that you'll dial it in when you get to the new house.
I keep debating over weather I prefer the simplicity of the 2.EQ or the flexability of the BFD. How do you like the 2EQ?
Are you going to visit my sub build?

Yeah, I'm a little afraid of the BFD. I don't even have a laptop to dial it in with. Just not sure if 2 bands is enough.Sorry dude, I didn't even notice that that build was you.
Cool to see John hepling you out. I like the eQ2 pretty well. It actually can do quite a bit with just the one band of EQ that I am using. The guy I bought the sub from sold it to me for $50 so I guess I can't complain.
I'm sure the BFD is a great piece of equipment, it just seems way too complicated for me. But if you can figure that thing out, more power to you. I'm sure it does a lot more than the eQ2. But the eQ2 does enough for me and it's simple.
