KEF 201/2s Arrived

Got my KEF 201/2s a few hours ago.

Here are some pics:

My impressions of the KEF 201/2s in Stereo 2.1 w/ dual Rythmiks is that they sound similar to the Salon2s in detail/resolution, which is slightly more detailed than the Orions.

Driven by the same amp AT3005, I can tell the 201/2s are not very sensitive - I had to increase the channel level to +6dB to get the 75dBC.

On the Orions, the channel level is 0dBC.

On the Salon2s, the channel level is -1dBC.

Quite the nice collection of speakers you got ADTG. I'm always a fan of the light cherry. Speaking of that, can you tell a difference in the finish quality between the KEF and the Revel's? They look pretty equal in the pictures.

But, it's starting to look pretty cramped in there....

The way I see it, you only have 3 real options:

1.) Get a second room.
2.) Start selling/giving away some of those speakers.
3.) Say the hell with it and get 2 more D15SE's - 7.4 system anyone?

My vote, is of course, for #3

The Salons' magohany is a little lighter in color than the KEFs' cherry.

I want to give HUGE thanks to InTheIndustry for his tremendous help on getting my speakers!!!

If you guys hate me, please focus some of that hate towards InTheIndustry; you can blame him completely for all my speakers.

My Evil Plan is this:

3 different systems:

System#1/Room#1 for Movies: KEF 201/2 (Front L/R, Surround L/R) + KEF 202/2 (Center) + Dual Rythmiks

System#2/Room#2 for Rock/Pop Music: Revel Salon 2

System#3/Room#2 for Classical Music: Linkwitz Orion

Curiosity: can these "little" speakers (kef) play as loud as the revels, if crossedover high with a sub(s), without compressing and distorting?

Soundstage reviewed the KEF 201/2s and said they are the new "reference" in terms of bookshelf speakers playing high SPL without distortion.

I doubt they can play as loud as the Salons, though, due to the smaller size of the KEF 201/2s.

I suppose they can play as loud as you can handle before passing out.

According to the KEF Reference manual, the flagship 207/2 (48.2" x 15.7" x 27" ~ 20,000 cubic inch) has a max output of 117dB, while the 201/2 (16.4" x 9.8" x 15.9" ~ 2,500 cubic inch) has a max output of 110dB.

The KEF XQ30 tower (33.7" x 7.5" x 11.5" ~ 2,900 cubic inch) has a max output of 109dB.

The KEF Q500 tower (34.3" x 7.1" x 10.7" ~ 2,600 cubic inch) has a max output of 110dB.

So for a "bookshelf" speaker, the 201/2 measures almost as large in volume as some "towers", and can play louder than a few.

I take it it has something to do with the drivers?
