They look beautiful also, but I think the B&W with the Marlan head looks a little better. I know I am the minority on this.

If you end up getting the B&W 802D one day, I will proclaim to everyone that they are awesome speakers.

I think they look awesome aesthetically; I have always liked the way the 800s look.

Now that you have some new speakers (congrats), what are you going to do with those Orions?

I am thinking that if you were going to sell them, they would look great in my 3 car garage. Plenty of space for to have them 8-9ft apart, and 6ft off the back wall.

If they(Salon2) are as good as everybody is saying, maybe they should be added to the short list for a speaker shootout.

The ONLY way I would even consider selling the Orions is if I could get $9K.

InTheIndustry just shipped me four KEF 201/2 speakers via UPS; delivery scheduled for this Wednesday.

I will see how they sound in 2.1 vs. the Orion vs. Salon.

Salon 2 + Denon AVR-5308 Pure Direct

PENG asked me to see how the Salon 2s would sound with just the Denon 5308 AVR - no ext amp.

Level matched to 85dBA Max, I compared "Hotel California" between the 5308 vs. AVP-A1/AT3005. On both the Denon 5308 & AVP-A1, the volume knob was @ -13dB.

The song sounded identical to me.

I could not tell the difference.

Although the AT3005 could produce 300+ watts into 8ohm, I doubt that it was producing > 150 watts. I also played the AVP/AT3005 for 2 hours straight before doing the switch, and the AT3005 wasn't even warm to the touch.

The Denon 5308 could produce 235 watts into 8 ohms (2 ch driven, 1% THD, Home Theater Mag).

I also paused the song on the Denon 4010UD, turned the volume knob on the Denon 5308 & AVP-A1 to +18dB, placed my ear on the tweeter & midrange drivers, and listened for any hissing sound. I could not hear any hiss whatsoever.

So in conclusion, I could not tell the difference between the Denon AVR-5308 vs. the Denon AVP-A1/AT3005 when both were driving the Salon2s in 2.0 Pure Direct mode.

You know those dinosaur stomps sounded quite detailed with exquisite resolution and soundstage.

Channel separation was impeccable when those T-Rexs jumped left and right.
