Just a simple question. My old Onkyo 805AVR is just about done. I know when they went to the 806 the power went down on them.. Is all the new stuff out there under 500 bucks going to be a big step down? Or will I be stepping into much better AVR's now a days..... Power and features..Just wondering what new AVR's will get me. I would like to keep it under 600 if I can.
Thanks everyone.

You can get a TX-NR818 for $699.99. That will get you most of the latest features one would ever need, but power will go down relative to that of the 805's but not by much. Some people seem to think for best reliability track record, go with Yamaha, probably followed by Denon and Marantz.

Thanks. The Onkyo 805 is a beast at almost 60 pounds. All these new AVR's a a lot less. I planned on going with Yamaha but don't want to spend to much. I really don't want another Onkyo if they still run so hot you can cook an egg. I have to run fans on this one to keep it from melting.

I find the newer Onkyo receivers run cooler than those from the x05 and x06 series. That said, I like Denon myself under $1k, but Yamaha would be a close second.
