An image of my new turntable that I will hopefully be able to pick up next week.

That looks like a Poject expression III.

Are you getting it with the supplied Sumiko Oyster 3 cartridge?

I personally doubt you will be happy with that cartridge. It only has a spherical stylus, and an elliptical one really is required for other than a very basic cartridge.

I would negotiate an upgrade.

I'm no fan of Asian cartridges or their speakers.

In Canada, they are being supplied with an Ortofon 2M Red which I had on my previous turntable. I know you're no fan of Ortofon but I happen to like their sound. :)

That's the one I have, the Red. It sounds good to me and I think you will like it.

I don't know what gave you the idea I do not like Ortofon cartridges. I don't like the OM series but the rest are fine. The RED is good value for money.

I can hear a difference between my previous Debut III's OM-5e but it is just a slight improvement. I found even the $50 worth OM-5e sounded very acceptable and seemed quieter as it may be less sensitive to rumble or record surface noise. Overall I definitely prefer the red but I think most people may expect more significant improvements.

I had the OM-10 with my Xpression II and I upgraded to the Red and I noticed that ithe Red was less suscpetable to the ticks and pops but still let the highs come through. I'm wondering how much an improvement I will hear of the Xpression III over the II

I picked it up yesterday and set it up. The table was christened with Jack White's new album Blunderbus. Since the time gap between the old table and the new table was about 3 weeks long, I won't say that the Xpression III is a definate improvement sound wise over the Xpression II. I love the sound of the III but I loved the sound of the II as well. I did notice several things though about the III which build wise seems better than the II

1.) I can't hear the motor start to spin when I turn it on like I did on the previous model.
2,) The tone arm seems to be more robust than the previous model.
3.) The dust cover seems to be thicker and feel more rigid than the older one.

From a build perpective, I feel like its a step up. Sonically, it may be as well but like I said before, the time gap between hearing the old and new table is too great to recall accurately.

Congradulations on the new table!!!

Pick up the album:
Santigold, Master Of My Make Believe...
its a really great album & sounds excellent!!! It's fun music with a girl singer.

BTW I also have the 2M Red on my Lenco L75 & even though it's not the best compliance match for the arm it still sounds fantastic!!!!
