My new internet speed

I recently came back two weeks vaca and for that period I decided to suspend the cable service to save few bucks. Coming back service was (eventually) fully reactivated (3 phone calls and one tech visit) but during re-activation CV rep offered my one year promo to get same deal as new customers - $99/ first year (+10 for DVR) for the triple play - I said - ya know what son - while we here be saving 10 bucks a month while not add CV Boost... I know 22mbs/2mbps is nice for for 15 extra (or only 5 more that I used to pay in total bill) - Lets get it on.

Today I got the Docsis 3.0 modem. Hooked it up and registered and did a first test:

Not too shabby ... ;)

At work I get 85/85, but that is business optics - Cogent and it cost arm and leg :D

Nice. Pity the upstream is so weak compared to the down, but that's typical. 8mbit upstream is still pretty damn good compared to most of the country. The best I can get at home is a 25/2 connection :(

That's awesome. Perhaps one day these speeds will be remembered with the same estrangement we have for 56k today.

Screw both of you guys! :D Those are great speeds. I'm paying for 40mbps, but I've only been getting 25 for about six months. I really need to get off my duff and call them about it.

For you guys with the fast connections, what kind of results do you get when you test on a server on the other side of the country?

Man Steve - I just tested my Fios account and locally it was really close to what Sholling is showing, but across country, while download remained at about 30Mbs, upload dropped to 3.39Mbs!

That still looks pretty good and a nice 85ms ping for > 2000 miles.
You might want to try a few different servers as well, some always seem to be slower.

I've always wondered how well the fast connection speeds scale when traveling distances. Part of that will be due to your ISPs location (or connection) to a main pipe (backbone).
