My setup for awhile. WAF is high at this point. I don't want to rock the boat. Immediate future upgrades (in this house) will be interconnects and speaker cable. I am using whatever came with the components and scraps left over from previous installations. I can't wait to hear and see the differences. Pictures will come as soon as my AVP comes back from the manufacturer. That should be within the next few days.

There will be more than one picture. As I said, I am waiting for the AVP to come back from Harman. It should be at my door today. Once I get it back in my rack, I will post pictures. I was bored at work so I decided to start the system description before I had the pics.

Updated the system

Cables and interconnectes:

I got rid of the spaghettii that used to occupy the rear of my system and replaced it with Cobalt Cable interconnects and speaker cables. WOW. The girth of the cables made my wife blush. I haven't had time yet to play with new cables yet. We watched "Starksy and Hutch" last night. I am unfamiliar with the movie so discribing that viewing would be pointless. I will play some old familiars, think about all the money I just spent, and try to discribe what I "percieve" as being different. <No new pics yet.>

Side note about Cobalt Cable: HOLY CRAP did they deliver FAST!!!! I ordered on Wednesday, CHANGED the order on Thursday and the updated order arrived on Friday! Unbelievable!

Your system sucks. Your room sucks. And your wife is probably ugly.

(I'm jealous...does it show?) :D

Kidding of course...happy listening and viewing! Amp envy, indeed!

Satraini,

Have you been satisfied with the Dish Network 811 receiver and HD programing. As a Dish costomer and owner of a HD ready Mitsubishi 55", I have been considering the purchase of an HD receiver. The $400 price and additional $10 monthly subscription fee has seemed a bit pricey for the limited available content. Alas, I have never experienced the full potential of my TV, so part of me is quite anxious to take the plunge.

I am an avid fan of Netflix and generally watch only movies, so the Discovery Channel and the other content have not yet compelled me to spend the $400. Since HD DVD is only a year away, I may wait until next fall before making a decision.

Any thoughts on the value of HD content offered on Dish, DirectTV, or Voom would be greatly appreciated.

There are minor "glitches" with the 811 receiver, but Dish is working out the bugs. There are software problems with the 811, but they are updated via the phone connection. The only problem I've had with the 811 is switching from off air signal to Dish signal, the 811 will sometimes freeze. A reboot clears the problem. That hasn't happened in awhile, so maybe they fixed the problem.

As far as HD content, obviously there is not alot offered by Dish. They did add TNT a few months ago which is nice. I get to watch some of the NASCAR races in HD and 5.1. Pretty cool!

The main HD programming I am receiving is through off air antenna signals. Personally, I think the picture is better from the antenna vs. satellite, but since my TV is only HD ready, I need the 811 for off air. Good programming from off air. National football games, NASCAR, golf, baseball are some of the things I usually watch via off air. There are TV shows as well that are broadcast in HD, but I don't watch too much network TV programming, sans the aforementioned programs.

On the other hand, you wouldn't believe the amount of BS you will watch in HD just because of the picture quality. DiscoveryHD and PBS crap especially. ESPN HD is nice. Sunday night football games are broadcast in HD. Looks and sounds sweet.

I have not looked into Voom. I've heard of it, but that is about all. I chose Dish vs. DirectTV because of programming. I did a long comparison, I thought Dish would suit me better.

Hope this helps.
