My Home Theater revisited

OK...It is time for an update.

At the beginning of the year my wife and I bought our first house :D Nothing fancy, just an humble 3 bed 1 bath "grandma" home, but it is on 1/2 and acre! So we finally got out from paying landlords and can decorate anyway we please! While the Home Theater system (found here: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3607) isn't getting much of an overhaul but the rest of the house is. This is what I am working on:

All the rooms will have 2 RG6 quads and 2 Cat 5e lines all tied into a Channel Plus/Open House wall plate (WPW-PDC) it has 2 coax 2 phone jacks and 1 network jack all in a single gang unit all with 110 punch down blocks for the phone and network. (No fussing with keystone jacks).

There will also be a 2 gang wall plate for the distributed audio; this will get 2 cat 5e lines and a 4 conductor speaker line (JSC architectural speaker wire). I'm going to be using a Wired Home system for the distributed audio. It is a low cost 4 input/8 location with IR control.

All of this is coming back to my 3 structured wiring panels (Open House buyouts from PE).

The first panel holds the phone and networking hubs and consists of the following:

(1) Open House H611 Phone hub with surge protection and a RJ-31X jack to tie into the security system

(1) Wired Home WH-8THDSL 8 Port phone hub w/DSL filtering

(1) Netgear 802.11G wireless router

(1) Coax Modem

(1) Wired Home WH-8NDH 8 port Network distribution Hub

(1) Ethernet 8 port switch

The second panel is for the SAT feeds:

(1) Terk BMS 58 5 x 8 Satellite Multiswitch

It will also have the video camera modulators in it (for a later date)

The third panel will have the distributed audio in it:

(1) Wired Home distributed audio hub
(1) Wired home IR distribution hub

The fourth panel will be the security panel.

The 2 small bedrooms (only 9x9), kitchen and laundry room will get a MTX H622CE 6-1/2" enclosed stereo In-ceiling speaker. The bath will get a MTX H622AW 6-1/2" all weather In-ceiling speaker. The dining room, entry and master bedroom will get 2 MTX H625CE 6-1/2" enclosed In-ceiling speakers.

The Home Automation will be done with x-10 (It is a small house 1,000 sq ft.) controlled by Indigo on my MAC.

More to follow, and pictures will come soon!

Wow. That is an undertaking to say the least. Owning that first home provides so many options, and it is such a good feeling. Good luck with the project, and make sure to post the pics like you said.

Thanks for the support...every room has some level of construction going on in it. I still have to get drywalll up in my daughter's room  It also helps that I was an Home Theater installer and electrician for over 5 years...I'm doing ALL the renovations myself except for the driveway :D

Yeah, that'll save the bucks, and you're always sure you can trust te guy doing the wiring. I can't say how excited I was to start fixing up my first (current) home. One of the best feelings in the world. :)

Yea, I like fixing it up too, but I just wish I had more $$$ to finish all the projects!

I can relate JohnA...

Yup, I know what you mean...

3 years, six stitches, more bruises and lost skin that I care to remember and a whole lotta cash later and my basement is just about done.

I should have bought stock in Home Depot...

I prefer Lowes...better CS, better product selection, better lumber, lower prices...but that's just me :D
