Hi I would like some advice on a good first 5.1 system. I have virtually no knowladge of home theater.

Im lookin at a budget of arround $750

I was considering a pair of Bose 301 speakers but after reading "intellexual.net/bose.html" (sorry it wont let me post the direct link) im not so sure any more.

Could you please give me some advice on what to get.

Thanks

On your budget I will suggest the Speaker Company. Or SVS with a Dayton sub.

For a receiver look at accessories4less. They have great deals. They even have some great deals on speakers, but they are bit out of your budget.

BOSE is not hi-fi despite their commercials.

You could also check out audioadvisor.com and checkout the energy speaker clearance section.

Forgot to add the best deal going is the Behringer 2030ps. Buy 3 pairs and you'll have 6 speakers grab a sub and you got a very slick system.

It really wasn't specified what the $750 was going to.
Just the speakers? Or is a receiver needed within that budget as well?

Well I need an A/V Reciever with 2 HDMI in a sub and speakers(starting with 2.1 and then expanding to 5.1 later would be fine.

Im willing to spend some more if need be.

My only problem is that Im situated outside the US and am worried about shipping.

As Lsiberian pointed out above, the Behringer B2030P speakers are still the best deal going. There is no other speaker anywhere near the price to my knowledge that comes close in measured performance or build quality, and I am familiar with a very large selection of speaker systems.

I have just checked my local Behringer dealer, but they are selling the 2030A speakers for $600AU which is double the Behringers rrp.

260 seems to be the best deal for a pair I found. so you would be paying around 810 for 6 of them. :( They are great speakers but seem a tad out of your price range down under.

Don't get the A's those are active speakers.
