I have a 11' 9 x 11'6" room that I will be removing the drywall and insulation . I am wanting to turn this into a small home theater that is currently in the bedroom (Wife loves that LOL) I would like to know your take one a cheap way rather than the normal drywall and pink panther stuff for the wall cavity that might be better for a home theater and noise reduction. I was in HD the other day and saw a product called sound board. Would new insulation along with this soundboard and 5/8 in drywall be a cheap option that works? I have seen the green glue and the Vinyl but they are really expensive. Anybody have a cheaper solution again that works. Could I cut the soundboard and place it behind the insulation and then add the drywall would this not create the isolation I am looking for or at least the mass. What are your takes? Also I have looked for day on this does anyone know how much a panel 4x8 of quiet rock would be. I saw an episode on holmes on homes and this stuff looks or sounds for real. What are your takes on this stuff. The room is square and I know there are a lot of other questions for a true answer but lets stick to soundproofing and insulation drywall options.

In the past I would get great responses. I guess people are afraid to post answer LOL. Is this question too vague? Thanks for whoever post first LOL

I'm not sure about the rest of your question, but the second result in google search shows it's $44.59 at Lowes.

Here's an article that talks about STC and has some good info to let you know what's important. Good ole pink insulation that you can buy sized for wood or metal framing @ 16" OC or 24" OC presumably in a 3-1/2" thickness with 2 layers of 5/8 drywall is probably your best bang for the buck reduction in sound transmission. You'll have to add jamb extensions on your doors to make up for the additional thickness of the drywall.
