Congrats Modman on your new A1000!

I totally agree with you that the CD Manual SUCKS!! however be patient with the setup & continue to ask any questions you have because im confident that once you get everything dialed in correctly you will be stoked with the results. As a prepro the A1000 is a very capable piece of equipment. Im running my A2000 as a prepro & love it.

There is no way to disable the internal amp section when running an external amp. This i feel is unfortunate & hope future Yamaha recievers offer that option. My Yammy stillmgetts quite warm when watching for extended periods at high volumes. So i bought an Altec SoundScience AV Cooler & it works wonders at keeping it at room temp.

Keep at it & you'll have a great performing prepro!

Seems odd that such a high-quality product like the APC would affect the quality like that, eh? Any clues as to why?
Which APC model? May be try a different one in case that one is defective. I have a cheap one from Costco but I have never tried using it for video. When I have time I will try it and let you know the result. Anyway, don't give up on the A1000. I am sure once you have everything hook up properly you will enjoy this high quality unit. It is quite an upgrade from the 665.

If one has optimized for one listening position, then how can that be worse than no correction at all for that listening position? Or is it worse than no room correection outside the corrected position?
I have an idea but as you said this is probably not the thread for further discussion on this topic. I will PM you instead.

Update on A1000

Well, after the dust has settled...I'm pretty happy with this unit.

I re-formatted my flash drive in FAT32 and was able to play both WAV and FLAC files side by side via the USB port...no difference in sound quality. Success!

I connected a temporary laptop to the A1000 via HDMI and was successful in playing WAV files in full splendor, with on-screen info. Cool.

I was able to address the issue with the SCENE buttons (see earlier post) by using a digital optical output for SCENE 3 (CD playback), which permitted me to use the one Oppo player for both SCENE 1 (BD playback, straight processing) and SCENE 3 (CD playback, Dolby PLIIx).

I have connected the Oppo, a second DVD player (to get Netflix and other functions), cable box, and turntable...all with no drama.

I ran YPAO and listened to a few of my reference/demo tracks last night. Great sound quality...no better than my previous Yamaha...but that's OK, because that was quite good!!!

I am enjoying the internet radio function, and my life just got more complicated because of the stations I now have available.

Here are my remaining challenges:

1. When I select FM (radio)...no sound. Not sure why.
2. I was under the impression that Netflix could be streamed through this unit. Apparently not true?
3. Have not figured out how to get Pandora yet.

I will continue to let you know how things go. Thanks for all of your input and support.
