You can not longer edit old posts on this forum, so I have made a new thread to post updates:

Story time!

So, my whole interest in audio came about almost exactly a year ago, when I started this system. Here's what v1 was:
Same receiver and subwoofer, [but it's cool because my uncles' good friend works at ABT, so I got each of those %25 off] a pair of Bose Model 100 speakers, [which have one ~3" driver and those spring speaker wire clips that accept like no thicker than 18 gauge wire], and a Magnavox CD changer. The speakers and changer I just took from my basement, they weren't being used anyway. When we first hooked up the system, everyone in my family was surprised at the sound those little poop speakers were producing [thanks to the receiver], since my parents had never owned a reciever that cost over ~$200-250 dollars.
I was happy with the system, but knew from the start I'd be getting better speakers. So the next upgrade was an xmas present, Infinity Primus 150 bookshelfs. They kicked alot of *** compared to the Bose speakers. This is the coolest part though: Those speakers cost something like $180 [pair]. My parents got them at Circuit City. 29[!] days later, my CompUSA is closing their HT department [closing sale!!]. They were selling Primus 250's for HALF PRICE! We saw this in the ad that came in the morning paper, and I was like ZOMG! and ran to get the receipt for the 150's. 30 day return policy, and as I said, the next day was day 30! So we went to Circuit City, returned the speakers, sped to CompUSA, and got the last pair of 250's for half price. It was so good.
After that, I just have been slowly accumulating the better wires, changer, and surge suppressor. The FM tuner is the only thing I didn't buy myself [it's my dad's old one, but works great]. Unless I fall on a big wad of cash somehow, the system is done [well, maybe I shouldn't say that]. If I could I would get better speakers, but I don't happen to have $800 burning a hole in my pocket.

So, yea, I'm quite happy with it. It sounds awesome to my less than experienced ears, and with the CD player on I can turn the reciever up 100% and not hear any 'hssss' noises until my head is a foot away from the speakers. I've also done the "crawl around on your knees for subwoofer placement" thing from this website.

Update: Got the TURBOdock V and turntable for Christmas. I know the turntable is kind of 'wannabe dj', but I think it looks really cool. And it definitely sounds good.

New thread update: Got the stand for my birthday/rearranged the room a little.

Comments, criticism, ideas etc. appreciated!

Are you kidding? That system is pretty damn nice and looks great too. I didn't have anything even 1/10 as nice as yours until I was out of college and a few years into my working life.

Heeh, thanks.

Don't know if I mention this above, but I had to save bday money, xmas money, and like one years worth of allowance to buy the reciever and subwoofer. So, it's not like 'rich mommy and daddy' bought it for me.

I wasn't thinking that at all. Just envying a nice setup that I never had when I was young.

I wasn't accusing you, just thought I'd mention that since I don't think I do in the original post. ;)

Yeah, you have a nice system. When I was 17, I was using fake ID to go to strip clubs. You not only have a nice system, but also a good sense to spend your money on things that give long-lasting enjoyments.

Like I always say when someone criticizes my Stereo and money spent...

"I could've bought hookers and blow"

Usually shuts them up pretty fast.

Wouldn't that be a trip.:D

Let's see, when I was 17 I had a Sherwood 5.1 receiver, the Infinity IL-10's (those aren't going anywhere, I will keep those forever:)), cheap speakers for surrounds (Yorx LOL), a small Kenwood for a center, no sub, 13" RCA color television (super old, but good picture), and a Pioneer DVD player.

He beats my 17yr. system, that is for sure.:D

Brian has a good system for his age.
Yea, I was only foolin'. I briefly spoke to a kid at a pawn shop the other day. He had an interest in audio too. I wished I would have referred him here, but I spaced it. I don't know many young audio enthusiasts personally.:(

Those are "I Spy" books. They are hardcover, yet really thin and wide. Perfect for my uneven floor. I figured out it was uneven the hard way, so the idiocy of their appearance is worth it ;)

Seth and 5...
lol, idk :p Thanks
