My 1500 just died

Last night we sat down to watch a movie.
To my surprise my RXV-1500 decided it wasn't in the mood.
As usual I had the Extended Surround on overlaid with PLIIx movie mode.
The only sounds were those from my surround speakers. Virtually no dialog or sound from the fronts and center.
At first I thought it was the player, however I soon discovered that the same problem is present while decoding 5.1 digital cable.
It sounds fine in the 2 channel and 7 channel modes. The problem is only present in the Dolby, DTS and Yamaha DPS modes. Considering 75% of my listeing is in PLIIx mode, this is huge.
I have sent an Email to Yamaha.
Obviously the warranty has expired (last year).
Has any one had this issue?
Is this something that can be fixed cheaper than buying new?
Am I overlooking something obvious here?
I'm open for suggestions. I did reset the unit. No luck.

Sorry to hear that. What program source was running last night and what was the volume level if you can remember that.

I plan to do that tonite, time permitting, but in seems unlikely that would be the cause as it is happening from two separate sources. That being the DVD and cable box.

They're supposed to have good customer service, at least thats what I've gathered from previous posts. Keep up informed to any updates. Good luck.

In my experience, their support is pretty good but rather slow.

Yamaha's response:
Make sure the input is set to Auto (yeah no kidding) Or else send it in.
Right now I'm trying to weigh my options. Realistically I could grab a RXV-759 for relatively cheap.
I really was hoping to stretch this receiver out till tax time next year and look into the Emo processors or possibly the new Integra pre-pro.

Glad that I contribute something. I just wish that I could help with your actual problem.

To help me understand (sorry if I missed it in the earlier posts) - Do you have the same trouble with the front and center speakers when you play a Dolby Digital or DTS soundtrack without any extra DSP modes turned on?

Any time it tries to decode a Dolby signal the result is nothing more than what I would describe as peripheral sound.

To correct the above post: any time the Dolby, DTS, Yamaha DSP, or THX selections are enabled.....
