Music reciever on a budget

Well my jvc stero isnt cutting it anymore, to much boom bouncing around in the room and making it to boomy for how loud it really is. So i started looking at a local audio classified section, found a few that i liked. I have a onkyo tx-nr807 right now for my HT, and love it!, im looking to spend around $200 on a receiver, and about the same on a pair of bookshelf speakers, maybe $250. What are these like for music?

2.Pioneer vsx-1015 tx
3.ONKYO TX-SR506

now im just browsing every few days, new ones pop up, but am i doing the right thing going this route? Im thinking in the future i may do 4.1 set up. but for now 2.0, hopefully squeeze a .1 in there at some point. Also for speakers, any suggestions? I have a full polk set up now, and i enjoy it, but i also know its hard to find good stuff for $200.

If you just want a 2.0, 2.1 system, then get either a HK 3390, 3490 stereo receiver. The 33 has 80w, 34 has 120w. both have sub connections.

right now it will be 2.0, but i want to future proof a bit, and i think i would do a 4.1 within a year or 2

Or the Onkyo TX 8050. It has internet streaming capabilities if you're into that. It is on accessoriesforless for 219.99 refurbished right now. I have one and I like it a lot.

However, from what I hear/read those HK's previously mentioned are really great receivers as well. They seem to be the no brainer solution for most. The 3390 is about $210 on Amazon last time I checked. If you are really wanting to go cheap, the Onkyo 8255 is on Accessoriesforless. I've seen it listed for $99 to $119 at different times. No sub out on it though.

damn thats cheap lol. But i want to keep it in Canada, dont really want to deal with duties and all that, thats why i was looking at local classifieds. there were a few more i found, but cant post right now as im in a rush. But ill check if amazon ships from canada or not.

Of those on your list the 705 stands out but that's pretty old. I'd try to find a TX-SR706 or a 707.

yea that was the only thing i didnt go out and grab it, as i believe its 7 years old. Now i know im going to find some here and there, But overall, denon, onkyo, HK, yamaha, i cant really go wrong with right? i always do a google search of the model number and see if avs has a review and do a light scan on the unit. But again its only for music so i guess i dont really have much to look for in a unit. Also, when i get a unit should i use the set up mic to set it up for in the middle of the room or dont even worry about it?


also are the older marantz any good? found this down the road for $199 Marantz SR5000

Perhaps that boominess is coming from your room. New receiver (without room correction) may not help you. Move your nr-807 to that room and test it.
