Other than the great deal, was there reasons for choosing this one over other options?

As I get it's essentially running same os as boxee box.
It doesn't support HD audio codec, however for this price it is good value if hd audio is not a requirement

I may still keep this unit. Its a spare hard drive but has no networking capability. EMC makes this product and EMC also make SAN products so that is a big plus in my book for terms of reliability.

If I find a non apple device that allows Netflix and a few of the other streaming services here in Canada, then I'll buy one of those units connecting the existing media unit to the PC and streaming wirelessly from the PC to the new device.

Hmm,according to this Boxee box support BD ISOs and HD audio ???:confused::eek:
I got the feeling i got the wrong product :( [ not to mention much better interface + netflix support and more frequent updates)
Read deeper - Boxee Down-samples HD FLACs. Just get yourself a Roku to go with that Netgear. Honestly I hated the Boxee interface but then I like simple and clean and not convoluted.

I like the two-box Roku 2/Netgear NeoTV 550 solution. Nothing touches the Roku for Internet streaming and the NeoTV 550 is the only thing I've found that supports BD ISOs supports 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD lossless audio, 24bit/192khz 5.1 channel FLACs, and reads network file systems. But it's not perfect and CES may bring something new. I'm not married to any brand or product line and while very happy for now I'll switch when there is better and cheaper. :D

Of course I'm not in Canada and can't speak to what's available there.

to be honest I don't do hd flacs and boxee gui is miles better than netgear

That said, Netgear gets the job done :D
