Hello all-

I am still a newbie at this, but with some help of some knowledgable friends I have started to piece together a descent system to start of on my audio journey. I am a classical musician, but I mostly use my system to watch tv, movies and play video games.I am slowly adding pieces, and currently I am running my system (see below for details) through my Onkyo 706, and I have recieved recomendations frommy friends that the next piece to add would be a dedicated amp. My reciever has preouts. My questions are what should I be looking for in multi-channel amps? How much difference would this make for my system? And I am not opposed to buying used equipment or something that may not be the most cutting edge thing on the market to save some money.

Thanks,

PS. I live in an apartment so volume is not neccisarily what I am after.

TV: Panasonic PZ4685U
Reciever: Onkyo 706
Speakers: Polk Csi6 (Center), Polk Rti A3 (Front), and Rti4 (Rear)
Sub: Polk PSW 303

Most receivers should sound fine at lower volume levels. It's the speakers and how they interact with the room that make the most difference, anyway.

A dedicated amp would definitely improve your sound, plus give you plenty headroom should you do decide to crank it up. I would look on audiogon and check out Adcom, Sunfire, Rotel, Outlaw Audio. Very nice amps and can be had for relatively cheap. 200wpc should be plenty.
