MS Avant 900 Series

Hi People,

I'm a little new to the HT game so I thought I would ask some advise from the professionals.
I'm currently building a HT from scratch and I'm choosing to concentrate all my initial research power towards audio.
The size of the room is 15.2' x 13.5'
I came accross the "What to buy - our picks" section on this site, and the $12000 catergory fits my budget perfectly. According to the recommendations of this catergory, the MS Avant 900 series is the choice.
My question is, Why have they included the 906 towers opposed to the 908's? I understand the 908's have the integrated woofers, so is performance the reason why the 908's havnt been included in the recommended list?
Also, I've listened to the 500 series and I think the package is great. Has anyone experienced and have any thoughts on both the 900 & 500 series?
It wouldnt bother me spending a few more dollers to upgrade to other speakers in the MS range.

Thanks for your advice

If you really liked that 500 package I'd say go for it as long as you are using it in a small/medium room. I know money may not be a huge concern for you, but if you go to accessories4less.com they sell the 502 package for less than $1700, and they are authorized dealers. Another forum member used them when ordering his MS setup and said they were great to deal with. The MSRP on that package is close to $4k, so you can take the $2000 savings and throw it at a sub, room treatments, DVD player, television, whatever you like. I think that the 500 series and the 900 series must be very close performance wise. Here is a link to the package I mentioned .

I've used www.AC4L.com quite a bit, and have ordered MS from them, including one full 900 series package (904s, 905c, 903s, 90x sub) for a customer for a great price. I highly recommend them. I love my 902s too.

The 906s are recommended, because you shouldn't really need much more than that for the typical room with a sub. Certainly for your size room, 906s should be plenty. I'd recommend you look at a HSU VTF-2 or SVS-PB-10 sub for that room.

I've heard the 908's and they are excellent - build quality is simply the best in class, I found them a tiny bit lean in the midbass, but those 10" passive woofers can pound! Very detailed and clear though in real life they look somewhat less impressive than in pictures.

I purchased a MS500 series set-up from accessories 4 less. I had no problems with the transaction, they were good to deal with! I would/will buy from them again!
I'm still sorting out the rest of my system (display, receiver and disc player -- maybe a sub), and will be installing it in my new house this fall... so no review on my system yet.

Just had another thought before I go out and buy the beauty's. The "What to buy" section under the $12000 catergory indicates two bipolar and two bookshelf speakers. Why wouldnt they suggest 4 bipolars?
Cheers,

The bipolars cost 2 X the amount the for one, and they are working under tight constraints for $$. There may be more but I'd bet that that is the biggest reason.

I forgot to mention the bookshelf & bipolar speakers are the same price, so I doubt thats the reason.
Mmmm dont know, but I think I might just go for 4 bipolars.

The Bipolars are on sale 50% off, the bookshelfs are $50 off. When they do the suggested setups they have to use full MSRP.

Edit, I assumed you wre still looking at the 500 series, the 900 series bipoles are cheaper for sure.

I've decided to go with the Avant 900 series. I prefer the seperate sub opposed to the intergrated woofers in the 502's.
Theres even the option to purchase the 500 series and substitute the 502's with the 906's & 909sub.
I need to stop thinking so much and just buy something.

Don't tell yourself that. You are doing the right thing researching. Take your time. This is your money, and you need to be happy with what you get. Good speakers will last you a long time and be a source of much happiness. Just make sure you enjoy what you get. good luck with it all.
