So i mowas soon as i get home to be done with it. The guy 2 doors down asked if i would mow at a different time because the kids get out of school not long after i start. School is about 2 blocks down. I've never had a problem with any kid,i watch and stop if some walk by. I've only been here since 80. He's the same guy that wanted no parking signs posted on our block for street sweeping as we dont and they just go around a parked car. So do i or not? Right now i'm not.

Its your yard right?
Since when can your neighbor stop you from mowing it?
Unless it is at night and keeping them awake you can do it whenever you want.

If he says anything again pour some rice krispies in his yard when it starts to rain.

That is a rediculous request. I understand where he is comming from (its a stretch) but lets get real...Its your lawn...your not disturbing anyone...your not breaking any laws...your not behaving inapropriate...he is trying to be the neighborhoods "hall monitor". he should get a life.

Not wanting to stir the pot in the neighborhood, I would tell him this is the only time convenient for you. But if he would like to mow your lawn at a more suitable time (in his mind) he would be welcome to do so. If he has a problem with that tell him to start a petition and present it to the city counsel. Maybe take the focus off you for a bit while he is trying to get signatures.

I don't understand why he wants you to change your mowing schedule. How does kids coming home from school have anything do with lawn mowing?

I have a simple solution. Have him mow your lawn when he finds it convenient. Offer him $5 for his time, as your time is much more valuable than his. ;)

Seems Deputy Dawg is your neighbor.
Give him and inch and he will try to take it all.
I would tell him I mow when I am able and it is convenient to me but thank you for your suggestion.

I have to echo Nick's question: what's lawn mowing got to do with his kids passing by?

edit: or what kind of lawnmower do you have that can endanger his kids?
the "lawn decimator 3000"? :)

Maybe if you go over each week and ask permission it will get on his nerves??

Actually, I say mow it when ever you like. His request is ridiculous!

Small objects being thrown by the blades, injury to kids? Or a kid running up to the mower for some reason.

But, he seems to be aware of that issue and was willing to stop when kids are walking on the sidewalk. That should be plenty good.

Ask him if there is a new city ordinance against it that you missed.:D

oh man, thats the quote of the week, lol.
i've broken a couple windows when i was mowing with a landscaping company, but we had 3 blade 60" decks and 26hp motors. a standard single blade push mower "may" cause some dirt in the eye, but like you said you are situationally aware. mow away until the cops come. they can't arrest or fine you....

I think mowing is fine, but if you were using your weed eater while kids are walking past your home, then your neighbour would have a valid point.

Ask him if his kid will mow your yard?

He's lucky he doesn't have me for a neighbor, when I mow I sometimes have my gun on me.

If you ask me...

...the guy is full of it...you're probably disturbing his nappy-time or something...How long has he been around? Has this been an ongoing thing? If not, what changed...why now?

IMO all you need to do (really more for your protection) is show some courtesy and common sense...If people are passing by while you work, just stop 'til they pass...either that or get some orange cones and safety tape and establish a temporary work zone around your perimeter...or tell him there are umpteen things you would like not to happen for any number of reasons, but that's life and we all know why space is a vacuum...
