I have a onkyo turntable, not sure of the model number and was wondering how i can tell if the cartridge is a moving magnet or a moving coil.

Google the cartridge name and model number whnen your home. When did you buy the Onkyo and for how much? Chances are if its like the Denon turntables etc, and its the stock cartrdige, my bets are moving magnet ...but thats just a guess. :)

A lot of those turntables from big manufacturers seem to come with moving magnet cartridges. I would think you could go either way if your preamp is suitable for it.

The cartridge hopefully has a name/number on it.

Well can you take a detailed picture? Maybe someone will recognize it.

Do you have a Phono Stage/ Phono Pre-amp that accepts both MM and MC? If so, you'll find out right away.

Chances are your cartridge is MM....
