The wife and I are moving into our first home. It's farther away from Dallas than the house we're renting now. Currently we use FIOS for both TV and internet (I can not say enough good things about this service). The new house is a foreclosure, so I can't talk to the current owners, but it does show signs of both Cable, Dish, and SBC boxes on the side of the house. I'm assuming the SBC is DSL capable. I don't know who the Cable carrier is.

What would you do?

Right now I'm leaning to Dish for TV and SBC's DSL for internet. We use Cell phones so we wouldn't need a home phone. Both TV's we'll be moving are at least 720p.

You can usually go online to see who the service providers are based on the address. I would find out all the options available at the new address, and go from there.

What's already been said. Go online to the carriers you're thinking about using and see what's available at that address. Heck I do it for my parents once every month or so to see when FiOS is going their way.

I thought I read somewhere that FIOS sucked for HD service and content? We use Direct and it always seems jacked up and I would consider changing to something better if it is out there. Sucks that I paid something like 600 bucks for the "rental" HD box though...

No, FIOS sucks for Customer Service. Their HD quality is only second to OTA as far as I can tell.

My wife is concerned about the Dish not working when it's windy or nasty out (which in North Texas it always seems to be windy).

Just don't ever get Charter. There service sucked so bad I went back to OTA.

FYI there are many, many channels in our area OTA if you have the antenna. They have like 5 religious and 5 spanish channels. On top of that they have like 10 other channels. The only thing I miss is ESPN. But the big sporting events come on OTA anyway.

U-Verse is supposed to be nice. Our you near fort worth or closer to Dallas.

We may need to have a North Texas AH get together!

I am all for a GTA, we can use my house...it is not great for acoustics but plenty of room and always good booze. We need to find someone with an Ultra because I want to see what one will do against my DIY.

I'll be in Little Elm. I've heard OTA starts to get a little weak for most of the DFW channels that far North. I have a friend in The Colony and he only picks up 2 channels with his antenna (of course it's a fairly small one).

We'll be going back to OTA for most of next month while we're painting/cleaning the new house before we "officially" move in June.

I don't have much in way of home theater gear, but my wife has an amazing cheese dip recipe if ya'll decide to do a get together... Just be sure and schedule the listening for After July (way too busy until then) :)

I suggest an in-line amplifier. It was required even before the switch.

http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx Use this to find the direction of your station. Works like a charm and will give you an idea of what you really need.

I have Dish and I am very pleased with the service. The picture quality is excellent (even SD is decent) and the DVR is reliable, easy to use, and has tons of storage.

I've been with Dish for a over a year and the only time I've ever lost service was when heavy snow accumulated on the dish. A broom fixed that problem. ;) We've had some wild weather in Washington the past two winters and I haven't had any issues with signal loss.
