Probably not what you were going for, but it is kind of an industrial look. I like it. If I you've ever been in a loft or condo that was built into an old warehouse, that would be the perfect aesthetic for speaker mounts in that situation.
I'm hoping the industrial look will be somewhat diminished once I've attached the speaker to it. At least I hope it does. There was nothing commercially available that would allow me to drop 18" down from the joist. Maybe I should paint it flat black instead. :) I used plmbers tape to make sure there are no leaks.

I like it (the industrial look), but I see how others (like the wife) may not. But yeah, once speaker is on there, I wouldn't worry about it. Creative solution that seems to work out nicely.

Sadly no.. well at least not yet anyway. I watched Stars Wars I which I thought to be a Dolby EX with 6.1 but I only see 5.1 light up on my Yamaha's panel. I went into the THX menu of the disc and performed the audio test and I heard the surround back channel working. I don't know if its incorporated in the film soundtrack.

Hey db, is there an advantage to having your side and rear speakers elevated that far above ear level, I'm about to mount some sides and rears and I noticed how high yours were, and what mounts are you using for the sides? sorry for all the questions but I have one more, how do you get the back speaker(s) a signal on a 5.1 source if it's not encoded in the film's soundtrack, I would imagine you could use one of the DSP modes in the AVR no? I have not seen a 7.1 DVD or BD in a long time, thanks my friend for the time, good job on the plumbing job. ;)

The only advantage is that I don't have to move em and stands around when vacuuming the floor. :p There is no disadvantage of having them up as high as I do.

The wall mounts are these;

Ultragrip Proâ„¢ Side Clamping Loudspeaker Wall Mounts with Tilt and Swivel - Speaker Mounts - Products - B-Tech International

I know Futureshop carries these in Canada. I'm wonder if Best Buy who bought Futureshop also carries these.

I just watched that movie this weekend!

You had me nervous for a second there... :D

I actually watched Percy Jjackson and the Lightening Thief . I used Transformers just for the pic. :)

I need to refabric my acoustic panels (in green) to match the paint job and hang them properly.
