Movies Where Sound Moves Around Between All Speakers

I just watched Spawn on dvd. It's a little older and has really bad special effects, but I liked it. I noticed the sound really moves around a lot between The fronts, backs, side to side, front to back, etc. There are scenes where the clown is talking and moving and his speech moves nicely from the rear to front left, then to the right, then back behind you again. There are also several screen wipes where the sound follows the direction of the wipe.

I recall an older thread where some one was looking for movies where the sound moved across the fronts, but I couldn't find it. This does that quite a bit, and more.

Anyway, the movie itself isn't great. It's what I put on the list of bad movies I like anyway. But the sounds effects are nice. If you have a chance to pick it up for under $5, I'd reccomend it.

12 monkeys has a couple scenes that are good like that.

Disturbing behavior as well.

Discovery HD has a safari show that kept making me get up to check the door halloween because gorillas kept knocking on trees all around...pretty wild.

If you have an XBox 360, the new game Gears of War has some phenomenal surround effects. The sound effects are creeping me out more and more everytime I play as the game goes on. :)

Contact - the opening scene. There are plenty, I just can't think of them off the top of my head and all my DVDs are packed for moving...

The Return of the King has great sound effects like that. In the beginning where Golumn is talking, and when Pipin gets a hold of that dark ball.

Good luck with the move Garcia. Hopefully you'll have your system back up and running in no time.

If you are looking for title where the sound sweeps around you like that, here are a couple.

Signs: When Mel Gibson is in the cornfield. The alien chittering and the corn swooshing moves around you like that.

Pitch Black: When the ship is spinning around during the intial crash landing.

Fellowship of the Ring EE: When Gandalf is using the Black speech of Mordor the Thunderclaps break all around you. <--Especially good show off scene

Willow: A rider on horseback gallops by. Sound starts at front right and leaves you rear left

Appleseed: When the gun tanks open up on the agent in the middle of the square. As the camera tracks the mini gun, the bullets move sweep through you, moving past the listener from front right to rear right, center to back, front left to rear left.

That is definitely a great scene, and it wasn't in the theatrical edition. You can really get the whole room shaking if you turn it up a bit. That's usually the first scene I show to people when they want to hear my setup.

Linkin Park Reanimation on DVD-A is one of the best when it comes to sounds panning all around. There is also a DD 5.1 mix on the disc if you don't have a DVD-A player.

Batman Begins - the "final test" scene where Neeson's voice is moving around the room.

Fight Club - the plane crash scene.

I second the "Flight Club: Plane Crash Sequence"

Poseidon was also good for surround sound.:D

Superman Returns - when Jor-El speaks.

Dreamcast - just before the Aliens get blitzed there is great surround effects.

Saw - the scene where Amanda is in the mask and has to search for the key - DTS 6.1 - your room feels like it's about to take off.
