Most heartbreaking guitar solos into rock?

Seriously, I have no life.
I'm very glad to meet another Camel fan over here. This is my absolute # 1 favorite progressive band.

Demetrio.
If you don't already have it, get Pressure Points. It's Live and an excellent CD. My original copy is an LP and I also have the CD.

I don't remember the DirecTV channel but I saw a yoga program with a woman whose last name is Latimer and the music was written by an Andrew Latimer. It was similar enough that I think it's the same one, although he had been pretty ill for quite a while.

Satriani - "Always With You, Always With Me"

PS: Thanks for the tip on Camel. Never have heard them before looking them up today. Good stuff.
+1 Here ya go RJ:

There's so much Joe Satriani I could list my head hurts just trying to process it.:) But then I'm a Satch geek from way back.:D

Here's one more from Satriani...Revelation

Oh and pick just about any version of "Sleepwalk"

=> Andrew Latimer (CAMEL), on "Ice",
Couldn't agree more with this one. Probably the one song that best defines this thread, at least IMO -

It's now been about a year and a half since his bone marrow transplant. Last I read he was slowly recovering, I hope that's still the case.

I was fortunate enough to see Camel play back in 2003 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA - front center table. Afterward both my wife and I were able to spend about 20 minutes talking to both Latimer and bassist Colin Bass. A wonderful night.

Speaking of Colin Bass, a few more for the list from his cd Outcast of the Islands, which features Andrew Latimer on guitar.

Here's the version of 'Definitely Maybe' I was referring to.

And here's part of a live version of 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers', by a band I know:

Very cool! Thanks.

Cause We've Ended as Lovers is one of my favorite instrumentals. If you have a relatively quick internet connection here's a cover of it by a band I know as well. Its from a workshop they were part of at Michigan Technological University a couple years ago. I'll be going to see them play this weekend.

There is nothing in the world of music that moves me like a great, soulful git solo. :)

Thanks for the tips, guys.

I have to agree with "Ice" - but another that always raises goosebumps for me is Tony Iomi's lead on "Heaven and Hell". I dunno why that is, but it always has.

I've seen multiple versions of the Ringo Starr All Star Band.

First time I saw 'em, the lineup was Ringo, Dave Edmunds on gtr, Todd Rundgren on gtr, Nils Lofgren on gtr, Joe Walsh on gtr, Timothy B Schmidt on bass, Burton Cummings on keys... quite a band.

Anyways, I've been playing guitar for (mrph, mrphl) years and am a musical snot. Nils completely slayed me that night at an outdoor venue called 'The Gorge' in Washington state. I mean he carefully walked you right up to the edge, did a little musical dance while he gently nudged you right over the edge into freefall, plunging you desparately into the abyss, and then landing you gently on your feet. I don't recall ever having seen a more moving solo done live before. And I've seen a couple of solos.

Anyways...

Good to see the love for Gilmour and Comfortably Numb, for me I'd pick Shine On You Crazy Diamond as the most "heartbreaking" particularly since it's a tribute to Syd.

Hendrix is another one, Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand can always give me chills.

Big fan of Phish myself, and the solos at the end of just about any live version of Harry Hood and Slave to the Traffic Light are pretty emotional.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, forgive me if it has, but I always thought the lead at the end of Layla was pretty cool.

Never saw them but earlier this year I picked up the live cd of this tour. Great lineup, and an interesting version of "Desparado" sung by Joe Walsh.

I always wondered if some songs they may have done were left off the cd. Anyone confirm?

I've always liked Glimour's solo on "The Fletcher Memorial Home" off of The Final Cut (very Comfortably Numbish). It's short and simple, but it gives me goosebumps.

Which are the most emotive, heart-breaking guitar solos you know?

Some standouts I can recall at the moment:

=> Andrew Latimer (CAMEL), on "Ice", "Stationary Traveller" & "The Hour Candle"

=> Tony Duhig (JADE WARRIOR), on "Death of Ra"

=> Steve Rothery (MARILLION), on "Easter"

=> Steve Hackett (GENESIS), on "Firth of Fifth"

=> Frank Bornemann (ELOY), on "The Bells of Notre Dame"

=> Chris Rea, on "Where the Blues Come From" (from The Road to Hell & Back DVD)

=> Mark Knopfler, on "Local Hero / Wild Theme" (from Dire Straits' On the Night DVD)

=> Jeff Beck, on "Two Rivers" (from Beck's Guitar Shop) and "It's a Miracle" (from Roger Waters' Amused to Death)

=> Gary Moore, on "Trouble at Home" & "Parisienne Walkways"

Demetrio.

Some of my favorites:

Joe Satriani's 'Sleepwalk' cover (better than the original)

Eric Johnson's "Manhattan" or "Trademark"

Andy Timmons "Deliver Us"

and the new French kid on the block, Mattrach's 'You'
