More Studios w/ DTS-HD MA than TrueHD?

What do you mean TrueHD is not backward compatible with DD? I can get the standard DD information from a TrueHD track.

Let me give an example.

The Showtime series "Dexter" BD's only soundtrack is 5.1 TrueHD.

When you play this BD via a non-TrueHD decoding machine, the only sound you will get is 2.0 Digital.

There are other blu-rays like this as well; they only contain the TrueHD soundtracks, but not the 5.1 DD soundtracks. So all you get is 2.0 Digital if you do NOT have a TrueHD decoder.

This quote taken from the link I provided makes it sound like it does have a core 5.1 track...

..."By contrast, the Blu-ray format mandates Dolby Digital, while Dolby Digital Plus is optional.
This means that Blu-ray Disc players might only be equipped with a basic Dolby Digital
decoder on board. If a Blu-ray disc carries Dolby Digital Plus (or Dolby TrueHD) bitstreams,
there will also be a companion Dolby Digital track to ensure playback compatibility with every
player configuration. Rather than transporting a core 5.1-channel Dolby Digital bitstream
and a separate 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus bitstream on the same disc, the Dolby Digital
Plus bitstream will be constructed as a hybrid of a 5.1 Dolby Digital core frame followed by a
Dolby Digital Plus extension frame.
A basic two- or 5.1-channel Blu-ray player only needs a
conventional Dolby Digital decoder IC to play these bitstreams. An advanced player with 7.1-
channel decoding capability will include a Dolby Digital Plus decoder that will decode both
frames to reconstruct the 7.1-channel program as depicted in Figure 4."...

Hm, If I separated the following into two paragraphs, I might consider it a wee bit misleading?

Ok, that can be read as THD or Plus tracks come with a companion DD track. FINE. UNDERSTOOD. WE ALL AGREE. However, the following makes absolutely no reference to TrueHD. It is in fact being specific to Plus. Wouldn't you agree? It mentions Dolby Digital Plus.. 4 times?

Rather than transporting a core 5.1-channel Dolby Digital bitstream and a separate 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus bitstream on the same disc, the Dolby Digital Plus bitstream will be constructed as a hybrid of a 5.1 Dolby Digital core frame followed by a Dolby Digital Plus extension frame. EDIT: IOW, perhaps Plus is indeed the extension stream, on top of DD. TrueHD is its own thing, AFAI understand.

Those marketing people talk & write like lawyers; they confuse the hell out of me.:D

But I am here to tell everyone here that I have experience FIRST HAND.

Plenty of TrueHD BDs do not have the additional 5.1 DD tracks. And if you cannot decode TrueHD, you will NOT get 5.1 DD! All you get is 2.0 Stereo Sound.

Now some movies will have both TrueHD & 5.1 DD. These will be okay for people without TrueHD decoders.
