more 1080p projectors?

I've been reading lots of articles on 1080p projectors. I'm trying to set up a home theater in my basement. The larger screen, I think, will use the increased resolution of a 1080p proj and a HD DVD/Blu-ray DVD player will look really good in my new home theater. Are there any more 1080p proj on the horizon? I've only seen the Epson that was even close to affordable. I'm hoping that the Sanyo Z6 is 1080p, but I don't know what the rumors are. Anyone have any news?

No official info, but you can bank on there being a plethora of new 1080p pjs coming out Q4 of '07 and Q1 of '08, if you can wait. No, I'm not a poet:p

What price is affordable for you? Don't forget, the hi-def players are not yet universal enough and one of each will be up there. But, a good hi def setup is not cheap by a long shot.

Certainly the Epson will create pricing pressure, and as a rule CE products get cheaper over time as the technology matures. While it's probably risky to make any grand predictions, I don't expect 1080p to hit the $2k mark in '07. Maybe after CES in '08. Of course, anything you'll read here will be speculation, unless any industry insiders want to give us a scoop.;)

That said, while 1080p is wonderful, don't dismiss 720p. That's definately the price/performance "sweet spot" right now, and with a good scaler it will do a splendid job with any HD resolution. And of course 720p is the native resolution of a lot of HDTV content.

Thanks. 720p is what my cheap-*** little Optoma is now. That works fine for me. Right now a friend is living in the basement while she finishes school, anyway. I couldn't set up what I want for a bit. Before last Q '07, though... Still, I can wait until more competition brings the price down. Affordable to me is a street price in the $2000s. I liked that the street price of the Sanyo Z5 was under $1500... If I'm gonna be splashing out for a HD DVD player and a nice surround sound system, though, I can definitely wait until the pjs drop. Thanks for all your input.

If I had a dedicated HT with light control, I would spend my $5k on the new JVC DLA-RS1U.

I agree, 50K for a Runco won't get you 45k more performance. Technology gets cheap really quick nowadays. My Z4 was bought for 1400 and can now be had for as low as 900. The Z5 came out at 1600 and is now around 1100-1200. Sub 2k PJ's aren't easily dismissed as sub par performers nowadays, maybe late 90's early 200's but now now. The next batch of sub 2k PJ's will blow the doors off anything thats out now.

If you are thinking of using that projector, or any projector with the new hidef DVD sources, you may want to select or at least look into the projector's ability to accept what is called 1080p/24fps so the dvd player or projector can eliminate that 2:3 calculation.

This is a two part item... It not only must accept 1080/24p it must display at a refresh rate that is a multiple of 24hz. 24hz, 48hz, 72hz, 96hz, and 120hz (etc.) are all acceptable as refresh rates and will completely eliminate judder. Considering the price that 1080p is already hitting, I'm not sure that all this won't be standard in just a year or so for under 3 grand.

I second that! Maybe Sony will drop the price of the pearl, since everything I have read says that the pearl doesn't compete with the rs-1
