We are on the same page. While I do not condone the business practices of Monster Cable, I too know a good deal when I see one! My system is chocked full of Monster M-Series interconnects and Speaker cable. (The majority purchased 10-12 years ago. I can't question the durability, that's for sure). But I paid easily anywhere from 1/3 to 1/8 of the retail price for all of it. There is no way in hades, I would pay full retail for their product, but, regardless, the M-Series line is a decent product, especially for the price I paid! Now, I have cables from other manufacturer's in my system, from AudioQuest to Key Digital to Monoprice to RadioShack Gold Series. All of them have been reliable.
Truth of the matter, when I replaced the generic HDMI cable from Verizon Fios that I was using for my bluray player, with the MC 8 ft. M-Series M1000 HDMI cable, the occasional pixel disruption that would occur during movie playback, is no longer an issue. So that alone shows me that there are differences in HDMI cables. Now, comparing it to my Key Digital Python HDMI, I see no difference in quality or performance. The only reason why I did not use the Python cable is because the length was too short for proper routing.
Moral of the story. Yes, I would buy Monster products, not my first choice mind you, but the price has to be at such a reduced rate that it would be on par with the lesser priced competitors to the point that I felt that they were making little or no profit, and circumstances made it prudent to do so.
Regards.
