Monolith by Monoprice out of stock, what are my options

Hey all,

I'm in a quandary, I've purchased most of the component in my home theater except for the amplifier, I was waiting on 10/5 for the Monolith amp. to be available however it now appears it won't be in stock until 12/5 - ouch. 2nd lockdown is coming soon and I need to get my entertainment situation rectified.

What do you all suggest as alternative in that price range for an 11x channel amp? Here is the rest of my setup:

Maybe the Marantz 7ch and 5ch amps together? Can't imagine there's a lot of single box choices in any case, but plenty of multi box solutions.....depending on budget....

Or, sell the AV7705, grab an AVR-X4700H and an AT523NC for best performance.

The drawback with prepro is, if you want to do 11 or more channels, it will cost you a lot of money on power amp, when the built in amps of an AVR such as the X4700H, or Yamaha's equivalent will be more than adequate for the surround and height channels in many cases.

You won't need much power if you set all speakers to small and let your dual subs handle the bass. So an AVR would have been perfectly peachy.

I personally like to match , so I would agree with HD on the Marantz amps.

If you had the CX-A5200, I would have recommended the MX-A5200.

Of course, the ATI or ATI-made amps will output more power.

You could get an ATI or ATI-made amp for the front 4CH plus the Marantz 7Ch for the Surrounds, which will need 1 watt per channel.

The subject amplifiers assembled in the USA by ATi utilize toroidal transformers and output stage modules assembled/sourced from China.. China is now playing hardball with the USA in its trade dispute...
Especially for unique internal components and rare earth products/materials....

In addition the sound quality from the unbalanced RCA may not be worth it just to hold me over. Monoprice 200 watt amps may never be back in stock or they might have a price increase. No one really knows. They have steadily all gone out of stock over the last 8 months except the 2 channel version. The Outlaw amps are available now as well as others. You just have to decide how long you want to wait and how much you want to pay.

Amps can cost a fortune or a small fortune. lol

You said you needed something right away. If it was me I would wait two months for the amp that you want.
But even if you bought those amps temporarily. As inexpensive as they are you could sell them. How much of a loss do you think you'd take per amp I don't think it would add up to that much. JMO

I'm looking at the Marantz MM8077 (7 channel) and MM7055 (5 channel) amps which will cost me around $4600 CDN. The outlaw MODEL 7000X 7-CHANNEL and 5000X 5-CHANNEL will end up costing $2350 CDN. I've heard the Marantz aren't the best deal on the internet. Is it really worth the price difference?

Also is the Monolith 11x really worth holding out on for 2-6 months (no entertainment)?

What about the Emotiva vs. the Marantz or Outlaw amps?

I don't think I'm willing to spend $4k CDN on an ATI amp.

If it was me I would wait two months for the amp that you want.

There are many amps out there, I'm not married to Monolith or the monoprice brand. If they can't keep stock its poor product management. Other companies don't have the issue they do so it seems to be with their suppliers not an industry wide issue. Sometimes companies release limited product supplies to gauge demand but may take a loss just to get their foot in the door.

The MM8077 is a good amp. But it will have less power than the Monolith 7. The Marantz power ratings are for 2 channels driven. Expect a 20% drop with over 5 channels.

The Outlaw 2220 measures better than the 7000X and 5000X but maybe you will not hear a difference?

We are just beginning to see the age of Class D amps and perhaps better pricing, more energy efficiency and a little less weight. The AT528NC is the amp I have been looking at. It's an 8 channel for $3995. https://soundapproach.com/ati-amplifier-technologies-at52xnc-series-d-class-amplifier.html

The other option is Norde One MP NC252 for about $2100 USD for an 8 channel 200 watt.

ATI amps are just out of my budget, I don't mind getting an amp that uses their design but is cheaper like the Monolith if it was available.

Well you are wanting to run 11 channels total right? I would think you would want 200WPC for your front 3 for sure. So a monoblock 2220 for each of those. But you still need 8 channels of amplification from there. So the 7000x won't be enough. You could get one more 2220, but i would probably in that case buy 2 for your surround channels. But really, I'd say getting the 7000x now and using it for 7 channels while waiting for a Monolith 5 or 7 could be a best bet. I know you are probably impatient to get started with all channels driven. You could get a Outlaw 7000x and a 5000x but I kind of like getting 200WPC for the front 3 even if it's not needed.

Other option that Peng mentioned was get a good AVR and get three 2220's to run your front 3 and run the other channels off the AVR. I know you got the pre-pro already. I am personally guilty of not using the AMP channels on my AVR for my Atmos and Surrounds when I probably should. That Denon 4700 does look like a decent choice but there are others.
