hi - need some (simple?) help.
Have a 1970's mono car radio with two speaker leads coming out of the unit. If possible I want to connect this to two stereo door speakers with + and - terminals; how (can) these be connected together? I appreciate if it can be done I will only receive mono sound.

PJCOWL,

Please provide a couple other pieces of information for us to help more:
1) The impedance (ohm) rating for the mono car radio or the make and model # if you can not find the ohm rating.
2) The impedance rating for the speakers (generally 4 or 8 ohms) or the make and model # if you can not find the ohm rating.

FYI: In general, if the car radio is rated at 4 ohms, then two 8-ohm speakers connected in parallel will provide the necessary 4 ohm load needed by the radio.
A parallel connection is created by having a Y-connector from each radio lead (+ and -) splitting the two wires into four wires and one pair of wires going to each speakers respective + and - leads. See Figure 1.

plus ------- Y --------- plus .........................plus

minus ------ Y --------- minus.......................minus
