I have a mcintosh 2 channel amp driving my main l/r speakers. It is being drivin by the preout of my yamaha reciever for now. I plan on getting a integra pre/pro that is suposed to be getting released at the end of july. I will then need a 3 or 5 channel amp to drive the center and surrounds. Does anyone have experience with using different amplifiers for their mains and center/surrounds? I could get another mac but am thinking about a rotel, parrasoung or something along those lines to save a few$.

At one time I had a Parasound 1500A 205wpc driving my mains & an Outlaw M200 200wpc monoblock on my Center channel. Both made my speakers sound great. I couldn't discern any difference between the 2.

Why not buy a used Mcintosh multichamp, the MC7106 would be a smoking amp for your rears & center,100x6 or 300x3,you can get one used on audiogon or ebay for about $1,500.

I owned the MC7106 for a few years & there arent many multichamps on the market that are as good as it was, especially for the used price.

But if your hearts set on other amps you wont have a problem running other amps along side the mac amp you have now.

Unless one the amps is defective, they all should sound the same.

Provided they provide the same amount of gain (most do) and don't have spec differences that would be considered "audibly different", then you can assume that there will be no problem.
