Mitsubishi Introduces Laser Rear Projector Display

Mitsubishi is set to show off a 52 inch model of the laser rear projection TV on Friday at Huntington Beach, CA. This Rear Projection technology uses the same principal as DLP to reflect light. But instead of reflecting a white-light Mercury lamp the new technology will reflect the light of separate red, green and blue lasers. When the technology is finally released to public, which Mitsubishi says will be sometime in late '07, it will be the first ever consumer laser display technology.

Sounds pretty cool to me!! Thinner, lighter, more vibrant, and the lasers last the lifetime of the display - all good things in my opinion.

We'll obviously have to wait and see, but good for Mitsu, nonetheless. Finally, some good news for a company that has seemed to be out of the HD loop.

Out of the HD loop??? The Mitsubishi rear projection sets I have seen are superb. I'd get one if I had the money.

Laser projections sounds really cool, another technology that I am hoping will take off.

I don't deny that Mitsu sets have superb picture quality. My parents just bought a set for their basement home theater last year, at my recommendation. The point I was trying to make was that their sets just aren't as popular as others.

Shouldn't that read "the display lasts the lifetime of the lasers" LOL:rolleyes:

Great, another new technology to dwell over. I hope this lasts longer than LCOS did with Mitsubishi!

hey Rat ... in context of comparisons to lamps found in micro displays, which do not last the lifetime of the set, the lasers supposedly will.

The press release I read it from wasn't completely clear to me. I can only hope the lasers will outlast the set as they would likely be to a laser tv what the tubes are to an RP CRT.

Next year should be an interesting time as 'third gen' displays hit market. Laser DLP and SED supposedly coming out within a year of each other.

I can 't wait for the laser set, I was planning on getting the LED samsung wheh they come out, but the laser prototye looked so sharp, also I have faith in Mitsubishi to make this set work, I hope they can make it compatable with a 2-way cable card and DCAS so they will be set for the future
