Can anyone comment on these? They seem a bit puny... i'm looking to piece together a 2speaker system, with a decent receiver... i can get a pair of these for 175Cad... would it be worth it ?

I haven't heard the m71 but the m70 which is similar I believe. They're great speakers and are surprisingly punchy for their size. Have you heard them or compared them with other speakers? How big a room do they have to fill?

I have neither heard them (but can) nor seen them up close yet, but the reviews they get are pretty rave... http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2001/0904.html.

The room they are to fill is somewhat bottle shaped... a larger rectangle plus a smaller rectangle....

That drawing to scale would be 5.5m in length, 3m in width.
I'd also need an amp for these... the seller suggested a vintage with 40 or so watts of real power coming out of em... but to tell you the truth i'd prefer something recent. 85+ being recent... CD+Radio not an absolute must but is preferred. Separate units for em is cool too, i've a huge table (2.5m wide).

Please let me know your thoughts on how these would compare to the z5500s?

I believe the Missions would be ok in that room. They're 8 ohms and upper 80's for sensitivity so probably don't need loads of power, but never hurts to have it. The only way to know if you'll like them is to give them a listen. The Missions I've heard were more laid back than say Klipsch, Axiom, and Mordaunt-Short, but not quite as laid back as X-LS, Ascend, and Rocket. Good with pretty much anything.

Those Missions are pretty decent size. The driver is almost 5 1/4", many bookshelf speakers use this driver size. It won't hit the lowest of lows but you can get a subwoofer later on to fill that out.

Thanks for the good advice, now comes another question.

I'm currently semi-settled on this here bad boy: http://www.yamaha.ca/av/stereocomp/RX396.jsp#specs , for 120 bucks... The m71's for 175 and this for 120... 300 speaker set-up, what do you guys think?

Please let me know if this would be a good working set-up.

I like Mission loudspeakers, especially vintage ones, but the new lineup carries on the sound pretty well. They remind me of KEF without the imaging but that can go either way for some folks.
