Minimum Height for In-Ceiling Speakers

I am converting a basement room into a home cinema, with 2 rows of tiered seats. I am considering installing ceiling speakers for object-based surround technology (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and the like) but the ceiling height is only 2m (6' 6"), unfortunate but it is what it is. From what I have read, I believe this is too low as the speakers would be too close to the listening position but I have not found a definitive minimum height. Does anyone have any feedback or recommendations?

It is also far too low for decent sound, never mind Atmos. That place is absolutely cavernous. My son could not stand up straight in it.
