I want to make some tiny speakers for travel. :) I've been travelling a lot and headphones are great, but sometimes I'm at a location for a few weeks in a hotel room and would be cool to have some tiny 'travel' monitors for creative meetings and such. We usually kinda play off a laptop or something. Could certainly buy one of those little bluetooth jobs, but, hey, be fun to make something hehe.

Was thinking of using these:

Full Range:
Tang Band W3-1364SA 3" Bamboo Cone Driver 264-844

with:
Tang Band W3-1876S 3" Mini Subwoofer 264-909

Figured the little subwoofer in the same enclosure could add a little bottom end?

I can't help you with the speaker build, but you might consider incorporating a good fitting case as part of your design. It adds a nice level of sophistication if you can "kit" your system.:

17" x 12" x 5" Aluminum Tool Case

18" x 12-3/4" x 6" Aluminum Case

My AudioEngine 5's kit perfectly into the first case posted (after I cut out the file sleeve).
Do you plan to make them active speakers or carry a separate amp?

It would be exceptionally cool if you could use the case as your sub cabinet! But I'm not sure what design concerns that might entail!

Yeah, probably to stay practical the size would be more toward the A2's....Was thinking of doing pretty much what your showing only build the drivers into an aluminum body that is light but kinda cool looking (I can buy lots of cheapy stuff that works but knurled aluminum would be cool).

I mean, it might be more practical to go buy one of the many bluetooth options but sounded kinda neat to make an enclosure that's kind of creative (like you showed you put your A5s in) but really small.

After a while in these hotel rooms you kinda try and make it a little more like home. We kinda setup shop in them. But, obviously travelling overseas (especially with the gear we take) you want to stay really small.

Was almost thinking of the size of an A2 but thinner and longer. (but around the same volume).

Oh, although the case route might not be exactly what I'm looking for... I would use bar stock aluminum and cut it and weld the ends to form the enclosure. Also we get Pelican cases for free, but those are a killer to machine because of the little balls they have inbetween the rotocast. But, it would probably get transported in a small one.

Hi everybody,

Personally, I bought here the S10 model from Beats Dr dre and the sound is great for a such small speaker ! Easily movable, the speaker is bluetooth, includes a TF card slot, and delivered with a double USB +AUDIO cable to connect a PC or a smartphone and a free 8GB micro sd card. Frankly, for less than 30€ the speaker is light enough for travelling.
