Mini Mac- no bargain?

thats my point

I didnt think any part of it was a GOOD deal. I think the mac monitors cost way to much.
Why no laptop.
The main reason is that when looking at critical color aspects of an image,
lap top screens just dont cut it.
I've seen many photographers blow a photo shoot by depending on what they saw on a laptop screen.
Currently I do use a laptop for location shoots, but I also take a 20" monitor
to hook up to that laptop. Too much stuff. Too many cords.

I have always loved macs. We have a Performa 575 (about 10-11 yrs.old), that still works fine (OS 7.5). It's just slow. How many have 10-11 yr old pc's that still work fine? We also have a blueberry iMac (about 5 yrs. old), that my wife still does graphics work on (OS 8.6). The only thing I have against the new macs is OSX! I don't like OSX! When we can get a new mac, I will put OS 9.2.2 on it too.

I wanted to learn more about pc's, so I had one custom built for me. MSI motherboard, AMD 2400 processor, 512 mb ram, 40 gb and 120 gb HD, dvd rom drive, LiteOn DVD dual format R/RW DL burner, Gforce FX 5200 128 mb DDR video card, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Ed. audio card, 19" CRT monitor and XP Home Ed. OS....

I do like XP much better than earlier OS'. I run AdAware 6.0, Spybot S&D, AVG anti-virus and Norton Anti-virus, about once a week to week and a half. I use Norton's Speed Disk (De Frag) and Norton Disk Doctor about once a month. I use Mozilla 1.6 and Mozilla's built in mail, instead of IE and Outlook Express, so virus' don't search me out as bad. I've really not had any problems with the pc. Have had it almost a year. It doesn't even scare me to go into the registry, like it does a lot of people. When I uninstall something, I go into the registry, to make sure I get it all. With having no problems with the pc, and learning a lot about it, I still prefer the mac OS......... up through OS 9.2.2.

Yes, the macs tend to cost a little more, although, I think if you compare the features and expandability and hardware of the eMac, with a pc with the same, the eMac may be a little cheaper. If you'd rather have a Jaguar XJ instead of a Volkswagen Beetle, you're willing to pay a little more to get it!

You asked for our thoughts on this, and these are mine.............not the Mini mac specifically, but the macs and pcs, overall. :)

Ah, memories. The Performa 575 was our first Mac, with System 7.1 and a 3200 baud modem for AOL dialup service. W00t! We thought we were so bleeding edge! :D

I like OSX, though - no OS9 nostalgia here. Want to upgrade to Tiger.

Rip Van Woofer.......
Did you upgrade the ram on your 575? We bought a 16 mb simm, that took computer up to a whole 20 mb of ram. The 16 mb simm cost $600! We bought a scsi scanner that included the newest full version of Photoshop (Ver. 3.5). We took Photoshop classes at the local community college, and our 575's speed SCREAMED, compared to the school's macs (LC II's). Friends couldn't believe how fast it was! :)
Remember?
It was a great computer, for it's time!

Ahh...good old mac days...

Our first mac was a Mac IIci (OS 7.5.5.)...I loved it, stable, solid, and kepped going and going and going, then a Performa 6260CD(OS 8 whaterver)..what was Apple thinking, the performas line was just crap. Then a Power Mac 9500MP (Dual Processor with OS 9.2.2), that worked for me, but it had its quirks. Now I'm on a Pizmo G3 Laptop (OS 10.3.8) I want Tiger!!! and a G3 desktop for my music server. I had a hard time switching over to OS X but when all is said and done...no more OS 9 for me.

JVC...you can put OS 9 on newer macs but you can't run it native, it has to be run in OS X classic mode. See apples site for supported macs
