I have a quick question on a home theatre system. Has anyone heard the athena technology micra 6 speaker 5.1? It was rated on this website as the best speaker system for under $1000. I plan on buying a Yamaha HTR 5840.

I've heard it and it sounds pretty good overall but great for that price. You can get the set up from oncall.com for $299 . I'm convinced that you can't beat this product for under $500. Is it a perfect speaker package? Of course not. You really will need to use the subwoofer to fill in the lows because those are some tiny speakers. That said there are similar cubed speakers operting under similar circumstances costing several times more that can not out perform these speakers. If you are looking to spend closer to a grand then you can step up to the HSU Ventriloquist system with one of their great subs starting at about $600, and svsound.com has a new bookshelf 5.1 system for around $1000 as well.

While the Micra 6 is a great option in its price range, keep in mind that the retail price of the entire HT was $1K, not just the speaker system. If you are willing to spend a little bit more, investigate the Athena Audition series and Bic Venturi speaksers with an inexpensive sub.

The entry level Yamaha you selected should work well for these type of speaker systems. You should be able to find it online for about $200.
